Automotive News has new information on the fifth-generation Lexus LS 500 safety systems — the new flagship sedan will debut with three world-first safety technologies:
- There’s a new steering system that will automatically steer around cars to avoid an impending collision or a pedestrian, rather than just applying the brakes.
- The LS will also feature the world’s largest full color head-up display, that will be able to display upcoming pedestrians.
- Blind-spot detection will also get an upgrade, adding a warning system that can detect oncoming traffic crossways at intersections. This is made possible by a millimeter-wave radar positioned at the front of the LS.
These new safety systems will be in addition to the Lexus Safety System + package, which will be standard with the new LS 500.
