Lexus January 2015 Sales Report

USA

Lexus USA has started off the year strong with 23,131 total sales for January 2015, a 26.1% improvement over last year — here’s the model-by-model breakdown:

MONTH Year to Date (*DSR)
2015 2014 % CHG* 2015 2014 % CHG*
CT 1,005 1,290 -25.1 1,005 1,290 -25.1

Total Sales 23,131 17,637 26.1 23,131 17,637 26.1

Please note, all percentages are calculated by the Daily Sales Rate (DSR), which takes into account the number of days in the month that dealerships could sell cars. January 2015 had 26 selling days, January 2014 had 25 selling days.

Right out the gate, the NX has made a huge impact — the 2,812 sales in January were 30% higher than expected, and that helped Lexus to record their best-ever January sales month.

There’s little negative to report, with the only area of concern being the 25.1% drop in CT 200h sales compared to last year. Lexus is on quite a roll — this marks the fourth time in six months that US sales have hit a record total, and I expect we’ll see more of that in the months to come.

Finally, let’s add a new section to the monthly sales data by tracking how Lexus is doing compared to the German luxury brands in the USA — here’s how January stacked up:

  1. Mercedes Benz: 24,619 sales
  2. Lexus: 23,131 sales
  3. BMW: 18,981 sales
  4. Audi: 11,541 sales

Canada

Lexus Canada also set a new January record with 1,273 sales and a 39.3% increase over the previous year. The NX played no small part, as the new compact crossover sold 380 units in its first full month of sales.

NX column and 'Year-to-Date' header dates need a little adjusting ...?? Wow, impressive USA sales second only to MB! RX sales are truly amazing considering how old the model is.

How is Lexus still selling LFA's after they've been discontinued for over 2 years

I had read an article somewhere that there are still unsold LFAs littered about. I'll need to find it.

According to Auto Trader there are 14 new (un-registered) LFA's in dealerships across the USA. Likely the original 500 weren't sold out - they were just built out. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/New+Cars/Lexus/LFA/Beverly+Hills+CA-90210?endYear=2016&listingType=new&listingTypes=new&makeCode1=LEXUS&mmt=%5BLEXUS%5BLEXLFA%5B%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&modelCode1=LEXLFA&searchRadius=0&showcaseOwnerId=295188&startYear=1981&Log=0

Overall great news but really weak sales for the newly released RC coupe after a full month of sales it seems people are not too fond of it, hopefully that means an early engine upgrade. maybe turbo and hybrid options to make things more interesting?

What kind of sales levels were you expecting? The RC is never going to achieve mainstream sales levels like the IS or ES. It is a niche vehicle.
    M
The RC outsold the Audi A5 and Infiniti Q60 last month. January is always tough for coupe sales.

847 coupes in one month isn't something I would call "weak" to be honest. Perhaps not overwhelming, but definitely a healthy figure if it lasts.

I reckon that the RC is selling in such numbers because the 3.5L V6 doesn't really differentiate itself from the crowd, as the competition has forced-induced engines. So, in order to sell more, Lexus needs a new base engine, and a much more powerful new engine to replace the V6.
    M
I think the sales goal is 12k a year which they will likely easily meet. Coupe sales are always pretty small. The 3 now 4 series dominates, the G37 used to be a solid second but the A5 took its place. The RC F being the fresh face might be able to score second. Dealers can't seem to stock the car!

What I also find fascinating is that the second year of the 3rd generation IS is outpacing the first year of the 3rd gen model. The fact the IS is more popular in its 2nd year is remarkable. When they throw in the 2.0 turbo in there, the 3 series reign of terror will be over.
    M
The IS has been a grand slam for Lexus. Note how the IS now outsells the Q50 and TLX, the latter two being those brands volume sedans. The ES is Lexus Volume sedan. Its amazing how well the IS is doing, I see tons of them around Miami.

Lexus Malaysia has sold over 800 units of NX so far and apparently majority of the sales are of the F Sport variant. That's an extremely good figure for a small country. The Malaysian market NX only comes in AWD btw.

Great month for Lexus! I hope it continues like that till the end of the year. I am sure they will beat the Germans when the 200T engine is placed on the IS-GS-RC and hopefully the currently dull CT. Way to go Lexus. Krew, one question for you, why don't Lexus enter the 4-door coupe market? Imagine a 4 door RC! that would be something truly extraordinary and a super hit

I really hope Lexus would drop the 2.0L turbo engine into the IS, GS, RC and the RX, too as soon as possible. This will definitely steal a lot of sales from the Germans! Lexus has to be no.1 again. The 4-door coupe market is just too small, and besides their styling, their price really don't justify why they should exist. The sedan they're based on are usually the more rational choice. Lexus (under Toyota's careful product planning & profitability aka volume) just doesn't simply enter a market of that size.

I agree, but the trick for lexus should pricing it reasonably unlike the shameful price of the 4 series gran coupe for example. The Audi A5 is priced somehow reasonably and its a hit. Imagine the styling of a 4 door RC with the right price, am sure it would sway a lot of people from the 4 series GC and the A5 sportback. In all cases, i admit its not a priority, for me the priority is to use the 200T in the cars i mentioned and tune the old fashioned 3.5L engine

A huge increase in Poland. 882 cars in 2013 and 1725 cars in 2014. 555 NXs in 4 months.
