Lexus June 2013 Sales Report

USA

Lexus USA has reported 21,355 total sales for June 2013, a 10.8% improvement over last year — here’s the model-by-model breakdown:

Total Sales 21,355 20,022 10.8 118,415 108,132 10.2

Please note, all percentages are calculated by the Daily Sales Rate (DSR), which takes into account the number of days in the month that dealerships could sell cars. June 2013 had 26 selling days, June 2012 had 27 selling days.

With half of the year in the books, Lexus looks to be on pace for 240k total sales in 2013 — this falls short of 250k+ sales expected from Mercedes & BMW, but puts Lexus solidly into third place in the US luxury market.

As far as individual models — the ES & RX remain steady performers, and the CT has managed to jump onto the positive side of the ledger after a string of lackluster months. The LS had a modest month with 691 sales, it continues to be the second best-selling flagship sedan in the USA, behind only the Mercedes S-Class.

The big news is the arrival of the 2014 IS in dealerships for the last weekend of the month. Lexus sold 500 units over three days, and as a result, had its best non-holiday weekend in six years — a testament to the built-up demand for the third-generation sports sedan.

Thanks, Krew. The IS main competition will be the new Q50 and the less than one-year old Cadillac ATS, which sold 3500 in June. I expect Lexus to sell 4-5k IS250/350 a month for the forseeable future. Anything over 5k would be gravy. Lexus will not compete for luxury leadership again until the NX200t/300h arrive next year, and have their first full year in 2015. But 20k a month is a sterling performance, and BMW will have to win 9 more luxury sales titles to match Lexus' resume.... BD

Those are very good numbers for a brand with such a limited lineup and low incentives.

The ES 350 vs. ES 300h were not broken down this month, unfortunately.

Expect 20% of the sales to be the 300h

BTW, Lexus ES hybrid sold over 1200 for the month of June, and almost 8k for the year, putting it just under 25% of ES total sales so far this year, or pretty much where Lexus said it would be..... BD
