Imagining the Lexus HS 250h with a Spindle Grille

With the Lexus HS now cancelled, the only chance to see the model updated with the spindle grille are with these two renderings from photochopper Theophilus Chin:

Strangely enough, we might be looking at one of the reasons the HS was discontinued — the application of the spindle grille only heightens the comparisons to a certain Toyota model, which doesn’t fit very well with Lexus’ plan to separate the brand’s visual design from Toyota.

Looks much better, but this really only ever was a dressed up Corolla. Good riddance, and bring on the new IS!

    I've been waiting for that one too!Even though it's far from being my favourite in the Lexus line-up,I bet it will be the most improved of all the Lexus updated models!

I see this car a lot in the East/South Bay area. I think it was the ugliest, a complete #fail of a design. This was probably done before Akio took over Toyota. Definitely reeks of board directors/accountants who do not have passion or know how on car making. So glad this butt ugly model is out of the Lexus family. I was embarrassed seeing these on the road and I feel bad for the owners who actually bought them.

     Yeah, it was actually. It was signed off in 2007 the design, so Akio was thankfully far removed from it.

If the headlights were stretched a bit, and the grille extended into the headlights like in the RX, it might've looked better.

IMO the HS's original grille was one of the low point of its design. It looked like a cheap aftermarket plastic simulated chrome grille. Spindle grille treatment does improve the HS quite a bit, but I still won't miss the car.
