Lexus RX 350 with Panoramic Glass Roof

Although it’s not offered in North America, some parts of the world have the option of buying the current Lexus RX with a panoramic glass roof. One such place is Dubai, and Drive Arabia has some photos to let us in on what we’ve been missing:

Every Lexus should be offered with a panoramic glass roof as an option — especially the LS & GS. There’s nothing quite like that look, both inside and out.

the rear painted part looks too weird. I wonder why they didnt just black it out like on the ES. On the sedan, it looks like the glass stretches from front to back.

the car's rigidity would go out the roof though

Not to mention heavier roof = higher center of gravity = worse cornering/handling.

@Josh: Strange, I'm pretty sure the ES350 with the panoramic glass roof is a glass roof, no metal piece. I'm looking at a few photos right now, and there isn't a metal piece on the roof of the ES350 or any seperation of the glass and metal body parts.

eh, I miss the roof rails...

Fair enough -- I'm just a huge fan of the feature, it looks so futuristic. :-)

I agree, but that painted portion would be pretty hard to see under most circumstances.

@emptystreets130: When the panoramic roof on the ES350 is removed for replacing, the car appears to lack a roof at all. If I recall correctly, there is one beam in the center between the front and rear sunroof. You are correct that it is all glass.

Cool option, but does this eliminate the possibility for roof racks?

@Jay Yes it elimnates the possibility of Roofrails.. This feature has been available in the middle east since the launch of this model in Feb2009.

Looks good until you realize that it doesn't even open, and then you'll want your regular moonroof back. :-(

Actually it could. It just depend on who want to provide it for the consumers. I know Yakima makes an aftermarket rook rack system that will go in the door jab instead of sitting on the roof, but it won't carry much weight. They make one for the Scion tC which has a panoramic roof standard. I think max is 125lb for those system.

They really need to make that standard in Nrth America. Everyone else seems to have one. I looked at a 2011 VW Touareg and it had the best sunroof I've seen, much better than what Lexus is offering on any of their vehicles. Lexus needs to step it up a bit on these things.
