Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, along with Auto Express’ Owen Mildenhall and ex-Indy 500 star Hideshi Matsuda, will be racing a modified Lexus IS F in the Nürburgring 24 hour race this May.
The Lexus-customized IS F—which includes modifications to the suspension, a roll cage, Yokohama tyres, and aero parts like a front splitter, flat underfloor and new rear wing—raced in its first event last week alongside the LFA:
The first VLN race was a mixed affair – the car had an issue with a wheel speed sensor that was confusing the ECU, and the flat underbody caused the rear differential to overheat.
But the event proved a great learning experience, and there are two more VLN races to go before the 24-hour event. For the car’s next outing, new brake pads will be tried to combat overheating, and new suspension settings will be tested to help improve traction and stability.
With one of the members being a writer for Auto Express, I’m sure we can expect an indepth look at some point—that’s some team that Lexus has assembled!
