Audi is busy working on the next generation Q5 and new details about the SUV model have emerged.

We have already seen plenty of spy photos with prototypes of the vehicle, showing it will retain its overall body shape and will be slightly bigger than its predecessor. Despite its sizes, it will be significantly lighter thanks to a 220 lbs (100 kg) diet. Based on the MQB modular platform, the 2016 Q5 will share some of its suspension elements with the Porsche Macan.

While nothing is confirmed yet, AutoBild is also reporting the model will be getting a hot RS version. A 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbocharged unit with 400 hp (294 kW) will find its place under the hood, sending power to all four wheels through an automatic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive system.

Speaking of the quattro technology, the new Q5 won’t be offered as an entry-level front-wheel drive model anymore, as even the base variants will be AWD.

Using the same architecture as the A4 means we will see familiar diesel and petrol engines, including the 2.0 TSI with 252 hp (185 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque and the 2.0 TDI with 190 hp (140 kW). Our German colleagues also say the SUV will get an Ultra TDI version with frugal diesel unit and 48-volt electric system.

Expect to see the new Q5 sometime next year, most likely at the Paris Motor Show in September.

400 hp on FWD biased drivetrain? And isn't that 2.5 ancient?
