Infiniti is finally tearing off the camouflage and showing the world what the Q30 luxury hatchback actually looks like. Set to make a full debut Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, the five-door marks the entry of the Japanese premium brand into the compact hatch ranks. The company's designers did a fantastic job of bringing the major elements from 2013's concept to the street, though.

Like the earlier design, the production Q30 wears Infiniti's rounded rectangle grille and a chrome strip along the edge of the hood. The headlights are also left squinting from the concept. The only major change to the front end is an adjustment to the lower air dam to make it a little more realistic for production. Sadly, Infiniti is only providing this single front three-quarters perspective on the upcoming five-door for now, but check out the C-pillar in the background to spot the similarly pointed design there, as well.

The changes are actually more noticeable when comparing the Q30 with its platform-mate, the QX30 compact crossoverconcept. The hatchback noticeably softens many of the CUVs swoopy lines to be a bit more mainstream. This is especially true along the front where the big air intakes from the QX are made significantly smaller.

Production of the Q30 is slated to start in Sunderland, England, by the end of the year. They should actually arrive in showrooms there before the calendar runs out. Still, we're looking forward to Frankfurt for a more complete view of Infiniti's little luxury hatchback.

What a global world we live in
Infiniti owned by Japanese Nissan and French Renault as the majority stakeholder
Headquartered in Hong Kong
Car built in Britain
Mercedes/Renault Platform/engines

I honestly thought that was the QX30 looking at how high it sits.

Thanks, Gecko :) . Looks like is going to more or less take the place, market-wise, of the old G20 and later G25 series, only this time as a hatchback instead of a sedan.

Here's some more information that some potential buyers might want to know, though the spec-details haven't been released yet:

The first photo of Infiniti’s new compact, the Q30, has been released ahead of the official world debut at September’s 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. The photo gives us our first clear look at the final design for the Q30 and confirms that the vehicle does in fact eschew the normal ride height found on most hatchbacks in favor a taller design.

It was in Frankfurt two years ago that Infiniti first previewed the Q30 with a thinly-veiled concept version. At the time, Infiniti stressed the vehicle would not be an ordinary hatch but rather a fusion of various bodystyles that included elements of a hatch plus those of a coupe and a crossover . The hope is that by combining the sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover, the Q30 will be able to stand out from the crowd.

As previously reported, production of the Q30 will be handled at a Nissan plant in Sunderland, England. Shortly after the start of production, Infiniti will add QX30 production to the plant. The QX30 is a more SUV-like version of the Q30 and will be distinguished by a taller ride height as well as visible underbody protection.

Both vehicles are designed around the front-wheel-drive MFA platform borrowed from Mercedes-Benz, with front-wheel drive being the standard option and all-wheel drive available for those customers that require it. Power will come from four-cylinder engines and the standard transmission will be a seven-speed automatic.

Sales of the Q30 and QX30 will commence in the United States in 2016.

Stay tuned for the Q30’s full reveal on the September 15 opening press day of the Frankfurt Auto Show . To see what else will be at the show, head to our dedicated hub.

And not to mention the fact that it will probably be marketed in dozens of countries....perhaps a hundred or more.

There were some some rumors (fortunately, apparently unsubstantiated) that the QX30 would be an upmarket Juke. Can you just imagine a Juke with Infiniti badges and trim on it? IMO, that might be worse than the Aztek. Although the QX30 (whose pictures have already been released) is done on the same platform as the Juke, fortunately the body and interior are totally different. A rebadged Juke (looking like a Juke) could, IMO, seriously hurt or kill an already low Infiniti image in the U.S.

No joke, in China they rebadge the Juke an Infiniti ESQ lol.

I totally agree. I still can't fully comprehend the logic behind Infiniti's new naming scheme. The old one IMHO was much more logical. I don't think many consumers are interested in comprehending the new naming scheme either. Infiniti sales these days look quite lackluster compared to a few years ago, when the G coupe and sedan were at their sales peaks.
