More Lexus Models Added to Fuel Pump Recall

Lexus has extended their recent fuel pump recall to more models, some as far back as 2013. Here’s the full list:

2013-2015 Lexus LS 460
2013-2014 Lexus GS 350
2014 Lexus IS F
2014-2015 Lexus GX 460, IS 350, LX 570
2015 Lexus NX 200t, RC 350
2017 Lexus IS 200t, RC 200t
2017-2019 Lexus RX 350
2018 Lexus GS 300
2018-2019 Lexus ES 350, GS 350, IS 300, IS 350, LC 500, LC 500h, LS 500, LS 500h, RC 300, RC 350, RX 350L

From the press release:

The subject vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough.

Is the fuel pump in the gas tank? Just wondering why the GS350 and RC350 are listed, as well as the IS300, but not the IS350.

Honda also replaced tons of the in-tank fuel pump of the 10th generation Accord, looks like they have the same supplier :)

My 2019 ES 300H (2 & 1/2 years old, bought it brand new end of 2018) probably got this issue, which was not listed as affected cars (2019 ES 350 was). Hybrid got this issue too probably. Be aware if you have 2019 ES Hybrid.

Read on if you are interested.

2 days before we left for our 800 miles summer road trip with our kid, I got a shaking engine sensation, then engine light with other warning messages (check engine, hybrid malfunction, output power reduced, etc.) while driving on freeway. Took it to the closest Lexus dealer service department (1st visit for this issue), but they couldn’t do anything at the time as the engine light wasn’t on when I took it to them to check (of course). We left for our road trip and were hoping nothing would happen to my car. I was wrong. I got the scary shaking engine sensation in less than 150 miles away from our house (middle of LA, freeway 101 north) and we had another 150 miles to go for our first stop for the day. At the event, in addition to obvious engine shake sensation, I got the engine light, warning light, a few other lights came on the meter display area, along with the center display showing warning messages said that I had to stop my car and contact the closest Lexus dealership. We were luckily close enough to one of Lexus dealerships so I parked my car on the side of freeway, waited for a few minutes, turned off my car, and turned it back on as the closest Lexus dealer asked me bring it in. They run diagnostics a few times, saw “misfire” in all reports, reset the warning light and messages. They couldn’t do much at the point (2nd visit for this issue). We continued our road trip by switching gas from 87 to 91 as the service guy suggested. We almost got a rental car for a week for our trip but the service guy said we could go and see if it would happen again. The same issue came up at least 2 more times (frustrated, worried, disappointed) and disappeared during our road trip until we got home in 8 days later. The lights came back on after we came home from our trip. I took it to the closest Lexus dealer service (3rd visit for this issue) and explained the issues with my frustration to the assistant service manager.

A few hours later…
The manager called me and said that my car has a fuel pump issue which will be taken care of.

Hope I don’t need to deal with the similar issue with my Lexus. Otherwise I will go back to Toyota.

Yeah, a fair number of 2018s and 2019s had the issue (I believe Toyotas did as well, as the issue came from an external parts supplier). It's a free recall fix, I had it done on my 2018 LS.

I have a 2019 es300h. My car turned on, but would not move. My dashboard warnings were LTA malfunction, hybrid system malfunction, parking support malfunction, pre-collision malfunction, braking power malfunction. I had to have my vehicle towed to the dealer. Lexus of Rockville attempted to be a bit lazy and told me it was just a battery issue and was only willing to charge my car and send me on my way, until I was persistent about them fixing the recall issue first to determine if that was causing the issues with my vehicle. Rep. MIKE, was willing to try to convince me to drive my car over an hour back home, and said, he would call me once they received the part for the fuel pump. Needless to say, I told him I'm not driving my car in that condition as it could cause a severe accident if the battery (Band-aid fix) doesn't work as the dashboard still displayed all the warning signs. He finally agreed to give me a loaner, after telling me that they were short on loaners. I'm not pleased with my service at Lexus of Rockville, but they're better than Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria.
