Reduced the number of gears compared to the multi-speed AT plan, which is not necessary for racing
The final specs for the GR-GT, Toyota's first super sports car since the LFA, have been revealed. As we have reported early on, the powertrain mounted in the long front nose will be a newly developed 4-liter V8 turbo. However, the maximum output has been reduced from the target value during development, while the maximum torque has been increased, with the specs set at 660/880Nm.
It was expected that the transmission would be a 10-speed automatic, but it was ultimately decided that an 8-speed automatic would be used.
This transmission is a transaxle and placed behind the cabin. While multi-speed ATs have the advantage of improving fuel efficiency and quietness during high-speed cruising, they also lead to increased weight. Also, in racing, high gears such as 9th and 10th gears are unnecessary and wasteful.
As previously reported, in order to achieve electrification, a motor will be inserted into the drive system to make it an HEV. However, combining a motor with a 10-speed AT would increase the length and weight, adversely affecting the weight balance. This is one of the reasons why the AT was settled on an 8-speed. The battery will be placed on the rear axle.
Just like the LFA, which was produced in 500 units, the GR-GT will also have a set production run throughout its model life. First, 500 units of the First Edition will roll off the production line, followed by the elegant Touring Edition and the Sprinter Edition, which allows you to enjoy a more aggressive driving experience.

The car that ran on the Nürburgring in the fall of 2012 was equipped with canards and a rear wing, and was designed to be used as a racing car. The long nose created a silhouette similar to that of a Mercedes-AMG GT. The interior was unfinished and temporary measuring equipment was installed.

The road-going version of the GR-GT will be released as early as the end of the year. After a certain number of cars are produced and homologation is obtained, assembly of the race car will begin. Production is expected to take place at the GR Factory.
A kit edition is also planned (all names are tentative). These are expected to be produced in sequence, with a total of 1,500 units of the three types assembled. They will not be announced at the same time, but will be released in sequence according to the progress of deliveries. The price is 300

race is expected to take place this season, and it is highly likely that it will take part in competitions such as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and the Super Taikyu race.
It will be in the high O million yen range. After a certain number of commercial versions (development code 070D) are produced and homologated, assembly of the race car (266D) will begin. Both will be handled by the GR Factory in Motomachi, Aichi Prefecture.
The GR-GT was originally scheduled to make its debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in 2024, and also make an appearance in the domestic Super Taikyu race. However, time was spent maturing the car, so it was postponed from competing in races in 2024. The long-awaited

2018 under the name GR GT3 Concept, it was once considered for release under the Lexus brand as a successor to the LFA, and the idea of having lightning-fast headlamps was also floated. However, there were voices that felt uncomfortable about introducing a full-on internal combustion sports car from Lexus, which has declared its switch to a fully electric brand, and in the end it was born as a GR brand car. We can't wait to see it racing in the 24-hour race to be held at the Nürburgring in early summer.
After obtaining homologation, the car will start selling racing cars in 2020.
