Whoever thinks that the LC F was ever meant to compete against the AMG GT is just lying to themselves. This was a BMW 8-Series/Maserati GranTurismo/Aston Martin DB12 or Vantage competitor as explained by the chief engineer himself. It was NOT a 911, F-Type, or AMG GT competitor.

The issue is that they should have continued with the old formula of the AMG GT, and then make the SL the convertible version of that, not the other way around.

The SL stood for "Sport Leicht". Now it's neither "sporty" or "light".

The LC that you are driving is literally because of Akio Toyoda.

lol...

The same person that killed the GS

I quite literally know the person who came up with the LC and even modelled the A/B surfaces. I have worked with them on something in the past. @Gecko can vouch. Stuff nobody else has ever seen outside the company.

1,000 blank cheques is why the LC exists. All Akio did was take a GS, have his people cut it into 4 pieces and stick it back together recreating the LC's footprint, and then after him and drivers spent enough time on the track, approved it.

Saying he's why it exists is ignorant and incorrect. Without talent out of CALTY, and a lot of passionate fans with deep pockets, we would have never gotten it.

It wasn't designed with economics in mind. Literally every day the project lead would keep track of how close to breakeven they were as each unit sold.

But thanks for the hot takes.

Can you elaborate more on this?

Appreciate the insight, but accusing someone of making hot takes when you say stuff like...

Have little interest in rewarding the worthless old dinosaurs at the company who secretly hate everything that isnt named "Toyot(d)a".

Too little too late with all this GR s***.

If Akio could i bet he would kill off Lexus entirely and stick to Toyota/Crown/Century.

is a bit rich coming from you...

But yes, it truly takes an entire team to develop a special project like this. You're acting like I completely glossed over what all the people in Japan and the USA have done in the process. With that said, from what you're describing, everyone was involved in this project, even Akio Toyoda, so I don't understand the hate towards him. Especially since he was moving the company away from the lazy bean counters and into the hands of pragmatic executives/enthusiasts, with what happened in the 2012 Pebble Beach Concurs D'Elegance finally setting him off to green-light a project like this as the Chairman and CEO of the company.

At the end of the day, cars like the LC must be green-lit by someone like him, unless if there's something else I'm missing...

Maybe in the future, but I feel like I've already said too much.

Step 1 was making sure the car drove well. Everything hinged on that. I'll just say that. I won't say what makes or breaks it (handling behavior of a vehicle), but yeah.

How's that? I'm judging him from his actions and outcomes. He likely saw the LC as a status creator for Lexus. You build the status of the brand, and then you can shove corner-cutting models into the market and expect "aspirational" buyers to just pay up and be OK with it.

At the end of the day, cars like the LC must be green-lit by someone like him, unless if there's something else I'm missing...

Yeah what you're missing is an understanding of how TMC starts the process of developing a new vehicle.
It starts with identification of specific market opportunities, then there's a company wide competitive process that follows.
It's not Akio saying "Yes! Do the LC, I command thee."

They do a lot of stuff by committee. It's why so many of their products seems "diluted" or half-baked, and not cohesive across the line.

Lexus & Toyota are not some centrally planned, holistically positioned lineup of cars. Unless things have changed substantially, which I doubt.

It's like a constantly evolving fever dream of market opportunities & margins/efficiencies being chased.

I genuinely appreciate the insight. Thank you.

I'm not sure if I'm seeing it wrong, but why does the upper front bumper a bit like the RX?

Proportionately, it looks like it will be a more true successor to the AMG GT than the actual 2nd gen GT we got, definitely not a bad thing in my opinion!
This seems to be even better than the first generation AMG GT. Almost 1000 horsepower is expected to come out of this monster.

This proves I'm such a sucker because I'm back all in on this thing. Incremental updates of a prototype is all I need to sustain me 😅
