I've been getting the itch for the last few years, and two weeks ago I finally got myself my first ever motorcycle -a Suzuki Boulevard S40. Having never ridden a motorcycle before, its definitely a learning experience. I'm still sticking to the local roads since I don't have the experience to take it on the highway and I'm riding with a permit. Going to MSF school in the beginning of next month and getting my license.

As much as I like motorcycles, I stopped riding well over a decade ago.

Bikes are quite popular in some circles, but, as a whole, they scare me. Virtually no protection even at low speeds, though, of course, approved leather or synthetic riding gear and helmets help.

Having said that, I know others don't necessarily share my view. Good luck with your riding classes, Och. :)

I would love to take the licence to ride MC. But it is very expensive. Well, I have the small 50cc that my 10 years younger brother was using until mid-90th. It has been stored in our parents garage until last year. Wonderful to ride on two wheels to work!

Went through my MSF basic course and passed the skill exam. Got my license at the DMV yesterday, so I'm a happy camper. Been riding the bike every day that its not raining - certainly an addictive hobby!

Does that rally compete with the well-known Full-Throttle Saloon in Sturgis, SD?........or is it two different types of bikers? Some of those bikers at Sturgis can be pretty rough.

Here in D.C., of course, we have the annual Rolling Thunder event every Memorial Day, where bikers from all over the country converge on the Mall...but that is more of a political event, in support of veterans and POWs, than a typical rally or party-event.

.

No it doesn't compete with Sturgis. Hollister has its own unique rich and longer history including "Wild Ones". Police presence insuring safety is noteworthy given rival motorcycle clubs in attendance. Many families attend too. All "types" attend.

Have you ever been to any big motorcycle rally? Check one out in person.

I've been to the Rolling Thunder event, but that is more of a political event than a true biker-rally. One of my ex-co-workers rides in it each year.....on a Gold Wing (probably one of the few guys there without a Harley).
