First Look: New Lexus EV Concept Arrives Next Month

GQ Japan has posted an early look at the Lexus concept set to debut in late October at the Japan Mobility Show. This concept was teased last week during a media event, which Hans Greimel of Automotive News also attended — here’s what he had to say:

A new generation of F-inspired all-electric performance models on tap is pumped up by rumors of an EV sports coupe positioned as a spiritual successor to the legendary LFA supercar. A teaser of the Japan Mobility Show concept shows a wedge-shaped silhouette with a long wheelbase, tucked-down nose and raked windshield.

It all feeds into how Lexus wants to distinguish itself from the premium pack through its Lexus Driving Signature, a driving experience characterized by quiet comfort and responsive steering.

The concept previews a 2026 production model that will introduce the brand’s next-generation EV technology. An official press release goes into more detail:

In 2026, Lexus will introduce a next-generation battery EV with a revolutionary modular vehicle body structure, a drastically changed production method, and a completely renewed software platform. A first concept model that explores this approach will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October of this year as part of Lexus commitment to changing the future of automobiles through electrification.

This announcement was made at the occasion of the LEXUS SHOWCASE event for global media, which was held in Japan on Sept 15 and 16.

What is going on with this site? Never any posts anymore. This concept has been revealed for a few days now, and yet it's not posted here. There is also a bunch of other Lexus news I keep seeing. Are we done with this site? What's the deal?

LF-ZC production model to be launched in 2026:

So... quite far away to be honest... Wasn't something like 2025 previously?

After the announcement on battery strategy / roadmap, looks like it will be 2027/2028, at the earliest, when I consider getting a Lexus BEV (likely an IS or one sedan/hatch size smaller if spec'd and priced reasonably well). Only three or four more years and the naysayers have been proven wrong when they thought Toyota was a dinosaur, waiting to be extincted.

2027-28 is when the performance bi-polar Li-ion and solid state batteries are to be introduced. By then hopefully battery warranty will be at least 12 years long at 70% capacity. Even if not, I'd have full faith in Toyota's BEV battery technology by then.
