Drive Australia has brought the Lexus IS 250, BMW 316i, Mercedes C200 & Audi A4 1.8 TFSI for a comparison test — here’s what they had to say about the newest Lexus sedan:
The boldly styled cabin combines sporty and luxurious elements. Cabin storage is quite good, although there are no rear door pockets, and the front central cup holders can impinge on arm room for passengers.
It’s powered by a 2.5-litre V6 engine with 152 kW of power and 252 Nm of torque. Response is good, performing best as revs rise. It was ranked equal-second fastest in our testing with an 8.7 second 0-100km/h time, although that disguises the delivery of the torque (or mid-range pull) that can make acceleration feel effortless.
Despite placing last in fuel economy, the IS 250 “hit the sweet spot for luxury and equipment”, beating out the competition and finishing first overall.
(The written review is accompanied by a video that does a great job of summarizing the comparison.)
