Lexus Mid-Year 2019 Global Sales Report

Lexus has sold 360,045 vehicles worldwide in the first six months of 2019, representing a 10% increase over large year. Let’s break down the volume by region:

Region Approximate Sales % Change vs. 2018
North America 149,000 +1%
China (+ Hong Kong) 95,000 +36%
Europe 40,000 +5%
Japan 32,000 -4%
Middle East 16,000 +9%
East Asia 18,000 +17%

Aside from a modest 4% sales dip in Lexus’ native Japan, all other markets have seen sales increases, ranging from a minimal 1% in North America to a notable 36% in China. Credit for these higher numbers go to increased global availability and demand for the new ES sedan and newly-introduced UX crossover, as well as the expanded luxury market in China.

A Lexus Europe news release adds that global hybrid sales for the marque jumped by 34% vs the same period last year, reaching 121,234 units. This represents 37% of global Lexus sales.

European Lexus sales rose by 5% in a premium market that is down by 2% overall. Significant sales growth was recorded in a number of European markets, such as Italy (+51%), Spain (+33%), Poland (+13%), France (+12%) and the United Kingdom (+8%).

Sorry for the ignorance but where does Australia fit in there?

At one time Lexus Australia had the GX 400 and GX 460. As of current there is no more GX in Australia but you guys get the LX 450d and LX 570. Also Australia has the current 2019 CT...

Interesting there is no Australia but it could have been bundled with East Asia. Just like Russia is bundled with Europe for better numbers outlook instead of being listed separately because Russian Lexus lineup actually mirrors US and not EU lineup with models and engine choices. Ukraine is another country that follows US model and engine spec.

Lexus International's regional breakdowns (both mid-year and end of year) fail to mention 3 regions with admittedly meager sales totals: Oceania (Australia/New Zealand), Africa (primarily South Africa) and Central/South America. For what it's worth, the Approximate Sales numbers in the Lexus Global and European news releases for the 2019 Mid-Year Sales Report (and copied in the Lexus Enthusiast news story atop this thread) add up to 350,000, whereas the actual total is 360,045. Does that mean that cumulative January-June 2019 for these smaller regions add up to about 10,000 units? Or are these smaller regions' sales totals added on to other larger regions? (say, Oceania to East Asia, Africa to the Middle East and Central / South America to North America?) An excellent question...
