2018 Lexus LS 500 Plays it Safe in First Commercial

There’s a new Lexus USA commercial featuring the 2018 Lexus LS and its advanced safety system:

(The advanced pedestrian recognition and auto steering is fantastic, sure, but it takes a back seat to the LS F SPORT in Manganese Luster. Wowzers.)

This pic/angle/color/car...

I love how they put all the Lexus "L" cars. Showing what the company is capable of by showing the flagships, even though most viewers aren't in the market for them. I guess you could call it the "halo" lineup
Frakking gorgeous!

The lady jogger looked good too!

The lady jogger looked good too!
The bullet dodged her instead of the other way around.

Love this commercial and the new gal (voice) is growing on me though I still like the old-school voice from the nineties.

Onto a strange observation... I'm hoping this is a simulation/commercial editing error and not the actual display. Notice the HUD's person location and steering direction? If the driver reacts in that way, he'd have killed her.

It's half flipped -- the HUD pedestrian should be on the opposite side. The system is supposed to highlight the pedestrian location:

This is interesting since I almost saw a pedestrian get destroyed the other day. I was in the turning lane waiting to turn left behind a car. We were waiting for people to finish crossing the street. This complete idiot in a Inifniti Q50 decides to illegally turn left from the right lane (par the course in Miami).. he floors it and saw the first two people walking but he must have not seen the third pedestrian. He must have been going 40 mph and the pedestrian was on their phone crossing the street.

The car must have been 2 inches away from hitting her. My passenger and myself both were in shock. I mean he could have killed her. Which brings me to the point of all this pre-collision stuff. If he has it and the pre-collision kicks in what happens if there is a car next to him? Does the car decide to hit a car before a person?

I really am going to have to read up on all this stuff because the scenerios are sometimes not so simple.

At least in the LS, the system will actively steer around the pedestrian as long as there is room within the lane. It will not break any lines (I believe even if there is no car in the other lanes).
