EVO’s Chris Harris Drives the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition

EVO Magazine’s Chris Harris has turned in a spirited lap of the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition at the famed German track, and just like anything with Harris, it’s well worth watching:

Out of all the LFA laps I’ve watched, this is one of my favorites — this is a man that truly enjoys driving, and it’s clear he’s going all out in this lap.

(This is only a precursor to Harris’ full LFA Nürburgring Edition review, which is running in the current issue of EVO.)

LOVE when he DOGS the Bridgestones! LMBO! Lexus may've sign a deal with them, but they don't make great track tires, at least for anything with the LFA's level of performance, and everybody knows it. Let Chevy & Dodge try to get anywhere near 7:20 lap times on Bridgestones! (Well, we know what happens!  The ZR1 lapped at 7:26 without Michelin Sport Cups) If LFA had Michelin's it could break 7:10 BD

The Nurburgring edition still has decent high grip tires. The standard LFA has the worst tires in the exotic supercar league. The Bridgestone S001 are terrible tires and initially were selected as OEM tires for the 458 Italia, but after discovering the weak and flimsy grip, Ferrari kicked Bridgestone in the a** and fired them terminating their contract. Now all 458 Italia come standard with OEM Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

That's my point. EVERY company (except apparently Lexus) know the Sport Cups are the best track tire.  They all use them to get the best performance out of their machines.Lexus gets epic performances out of only decent rubber.  He noted as he drove he could tell the tires were letting the chassis down.Lexus is leaving time on the trackBD

Pretty much tells you how good the chassis is really. I'm not to worried to be honest. Its good to no another well respected Journo/Race Driver gives it another great review.

Yeah, the tires became greasy and became too hot (resulting in higher tire PSI) after one lap.

But you have to remember 1 lap of the Ring is 20+ Km so even if he had a higher grip tire they will still lose performance to after a certain amount of kms.Probably a good way to stabilise tire temp is throw nitrogen in the tires thats what I have done in the past it keeps tire temps alot more stable.

Not really, the 458 Italia will come with all three company's tires  Bridgestone S001, Pirelli P-Zero, and Michelin Super Sport

Anyone else notice the fact the car Harris was driving had no cage in it???? Also been waiting for this reviewhe regularly does the Nurburgring 24 hour race and competes against the GR LFA's though in a different class. Agree with the above with the Michelins the NE LFA breaks 7.10 for sure.

I posted the scans of the entire article. What an amazingly well written article by Chris Harris. He is not one of the most well respected journalists in Europe for no reason. "It is the best car I have ever driven". That is a HUGE statement coming from Chris Harris http://www.clublexus.com/forums/lfa-model/597357-evo-uk-lexus-lfa-ne-chris-harris-the-best-car-i-have-ever-driven-w-video.html

I think that statement only applied to the Nurburgring being the best road car he's driven on that track.

I realized just how extremely physically demanding it is driving a supercar flatout around the Ring by watching this video.  It has to be exhausting.  Plus, your mind has to be at absolute 100% concentration too.   I can only imagine one must feel like a demi-god behind the wheel of the LFA and other similar vehicles.  Like things like speed limits and solid yellow lines are only for mere mortals, things that have no relevance to the master of a LFA.

I WANT THAT CAR! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT TO FEEL IT! HEAR IT! I WANT TO SHOW IT OFF TO ALL THOSE WHO UNDERESTIMATE LEXUS! I WANT TO SHOW IT OFF TO ALL LEXUS FANS AND MAKE THEM TEAR WITH PRIDE, EXCITEMENT, AND HAPPINESS!
L
And he gets paid to do that! :-D

I do hope Lexus put LFA without an cage on Nur to broke the time ... it's far better with an cage because no one see it as a production car or road car because of that .

The Bridgestone RE-070R were LFA spec hence they've worked together with Lexus in order to maximize grip level as compared with the "standard" LFA S001 tires where it's probably better in overall grip dry and wet.  I think the 7:14 time set by the Nurburgring ed. is a well proven point.
