No Lexus HS 250h in Europe, but IS Diesel Update Coming

Lexus HS 250h & Lexus IS 220d

In a follow-up to yesterday’s post, Lexus confirmed to the Automotive News that the HS 250h will not be sold in Europe. No reason was given, but an insider told me that the CO2 emissions weren’t low enough to justify the expense of introducing the model.

However, on the plus side, I was also told that there should be an announcement in the next week or so regarding an update to the Lexus IS diesel that will lower that model’s CO2 emissions. Whether that means modifications or something else entirely wasn’t clear, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be wondering for all that long.

  1. No HS250h in Europe really is silly, I’m very surprised that Lexus didn’t plan better for the powertrain to be able to reach the CO2 level that they need to be successful in Europe (Less or No CO2 taxes in most countries and even cash payback in certain country if CO2 fall under some levels, and no congestion charges in UK !)

I can’t imagine that Lexus is not going to fix this very soon, maybe a HS200h ?
