Well, not surprising. The Ford Maverick has been a smash hit, just like its sister Bronco Sport, built on the same platform. But that excessive demand, coupled with supply problems, means that orders for 2022s are backed up through the end of the model year.....Ford will not be able to supply all of them. I had wanted to check one out, too, for at least a static review or brief test-drive if possible...I should have taken a few minutes extra when I was looking over the Bronco Sport a couple of weeks ago, as the Ford shop I was at had a couple of parked Mavericks on the lot. Well, like the article says....you snooze, you lose.

The potential good news, though, is that Hyundai offers a competing small crossover truck....the Santa Cruz, but the supply/demand situation for that vehicle is also very tight, so it may not be readily available right now, either. As I said above, I haven't had a chance to review or test drive either one, but, simply based on looks, I think the Maverick is FAR better-looking, both in the front and rear. And the Maverick comes standard with a gas-saving hybrid powertrain....and is some 4K cheaper to start.

Actually, folks (my bad), this might only be partly true. Apparently gas-engined Mavericks can still be ordered.
