Toyota's next Aygo could go electric

While rivals such as Ford and Opel have exited Europe's minicar segment, Toyota will keep its Aygo but may make the next generation an EV for cities that are implementing zero-emissions zones.

They announced during the C-HR press event that there will be a kei-sized BEV. They could develop both an A segment and sub-A segment version of the Aygo like Suzuki does with the Jimny and Jimny Sierra.

FCA has said that it will exit the minicar segment and has written off investments in the Mini architecture used in the Fiat 500 and Panda and Lancia Ypsilon. PSA is also likely to leave the segment, with no plans to replace the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, now built along with the Toyota Aygo in a jointly owned factory in Kolin, Czech Republic. PSA will leave the joint venture at the end of this year, and Toyota will take full ownership of the plant in 2021

FCA passenger cars to move to PSA platforms

Two-thirds of the future production of the merged company could be on PSA’s newer, multi-energy architecture.
