The reality of self driving: If a human being can drive a car safely with only the physical senses they have, an AI should be able to match or exceed their performance with those same limitations.

The challenges in these systems are unique. From how you orthogonalize and structure your problem, what off the shelf products can help you achieve your goal, what data sets you have to work with, etc. There are a million factors for AI.

It's why Tesla is having trouble getting their heavily machine learning based system working up to the standards of their earlier, more hand crafted self driving system. Recreating the efficacy of expert systems can be challenging, and not capital efficient to invest in.

Very curious to see where TMC goes, but their team in Cali are seemingly the real deal.
