In a somewhat expected move due to very low sales, Toyota Germany is giving up on Prius HEV, apparently to invest in BEV's.

For Germany, the only available Prius is the PHEV. Rest of Europe to follow this move?

Prius has been downplayed in Europe for past 5-6 years at least, since now we have: Yaris, Corolla Hatch, Corolla Touring, Corolla Sedan, CHR, Rav4 and Camry Hybrids - literally everything but Aygo and Landcruiser's is now hybrid in Europe.

Most of these are produced in Europe, so pricing is also lower, so it makes little sense for Prius HSD to work here.

Honestly they should've moved the Prius to only PHEV/BEV years ago. In all markets. There's no point to having a dedicated model for a standard hybrid when almost every other car they make has a hybrid option.

well... years ago they did not have hybrid everywhere. Not in US, not even in Japan. It is very recent development for some markets where Prius sold well traditionally.

One reason they still kept the Prius HV going is strong demand in JDM. For a long time Prius is the go-to hybrid for tax deductions so its brand power is strong.

However it will likely suffer the same fate as the rest of the world now that Corolla hybrid is replacing it. The Aqua/Prius C used to be the best-selling subcompact (non-Kei) in JDM yet it is now cancelled in favor of Yaris Hybrid. Same goes for the SAI/Lexus HS which is replaced by Camry Hybrid/ES300h.

Has Aqua/Prius c really been cancelled in Japan? It still shows up on the official Toyota Japan consumer site.

rather not renewed yet... Japanese media keeps talking about new coming but nothing concrete.
Aqua was mainly US and Japan and so not sure how much sense it makes anymore...

Europe also has it, which leads me to thinking they will replace it with something soonish.
I've watched a lot of "police" videos from Paris, and saw a lot of Taxi v's in the background. I could imagine that they're popular livery vehicles still.
