Please take my post as inoffensive towards you or any other member of the Lexus Enthusiasts. I have heard many times in other forums /sites people expect to save money on the cost difference between gasoline and charging batteries from the sun. Here in Portugal the fuel is around 1,73 USD per liter.
I believe it is a childish fallacy, because Governments are not going to commit suicide by losing their oxygen, just because their taxpayers wont need to pay gasoline taxes! Am I insane to believe that?
No, you're right. Recent history is full of stories where politicians don't understand that taxing something leads to people doing/buying it less, from the cigarette taxes in the 1980s that caused nearly everyone to quit smoking, to Philadelphia's recent soft drink tax which has resulted in sharply higher beer and wine sales.
To your specific point, there is talk in several states of a monthly or yearly EV tax to make up for the loss in gasoline tax revenue; if that happens and it doesn't include hybrids Toyota will have a banner year.
