Lexus LFR/LFA II Megathread

I much preferred these two LFA concepts compared to the production LFA, due to the flared fenders.

The production LFA looked really slab sided from the quarter views.

That being said the production LFA did have the best front end. Just wish it kept the flared fenders of the concept.
Ah in my opinion the production version looks a lot better. It is more timeless and elegant.

Extremely beautiful design execution. Reminds me of a super polished LF-A Concept II that never translated into production LFA for some reason.

Yeah, these two look absolutely stunning… The production LFA, on the other hand, looks way too angular. Both the front and rear ends became pretty ordinary - too boxy and nothing like the concept car. The lights and the body lines on the concept car are way more curved and distinct.

Perhaps we could see two versions of the V8. Weren’t rumors saying the GR-GT3 (or whatever it’s called) has a flat-plane V8? Maybe the Lexus version would use a less performance oriented, but smoother running cross-plane V8, plus electrification.
Till this day that Australian outlet has released no video or at least the original transcript of that interview, and all other media are just repeating what they claimed.

You would think for their most important ICE customer base, at least one American media should be getting this info first, and surely native Japanese media should also get the words directly from their mouth. But apparently that didn't happen and we are supposed to believe that is true.

Another example is Autogefuhl claiming the Century Coupe to get a V12. That will NOT happen.

If you read the link I posted on the LC300 thread you'll see the TMC powertrain chief saying the new V8 can be installed in the Land Cruiser.

And while I initially dismissed the idea of a V12 Century Coupe, every outlet has been corroborating that it will be ICE powered not BEV. Akio is pouring out his heart and soul for this Century project. I don't see why they couldn't develop a V12 for it. Even though more likely it'll be powered by the new V8.

Hahaha…V12 my a**. They’re struggling even to get a proper V8 out the door when every other brand’s been doing it like it’s breathing air and you’re talking about a V TWELVE? If they actually had any vision, those engines would’ve been out ages ago instead of all this talk. Every time it’s always the same rumors - "it’s coming, it’s coming… LSF, LCF, right around the corner!" - yeah sure, in your fantasy land. What do they think we are, toddlers?

Saying what? Did he say in Japanese "このV8エンジンはランクルに搭載可能である"? Or was he fluent in English enough to say "we are considering the possibility of integrating this new V8 engine on the Land Cruiser series". There was no video or transcript to prove he indeed said that.

If that was true, he wouldn't allow the Century SUV to be based on the Grand Highlander using a 19-year-old engine. Why are we supposed to believe a new V8 and V12 are being developed when their global flagship has a V6 you can buy on a $50k car.

It's highly unlikely but nothing's impossible lol

Both drive com au and chasingcars spoke with him. There is no hard proof but I'll take their word for it.

The V8 has been confirmed. The V12 obviously has not and it will unlikely see the light of day but who knows. Also Akio was literally apprehensive about building Century on GA-K.

It's not exactly the rav4 platform but largely speaking yes.

Tbh I don’t really believe their words. As you know, we’ve been lied to too many times already

Absolutely nothing about the Century or Lexus coupe concepts would indicate that they were designed for a V12 or V8 respectively. The former still sits on the GA-K platform and the latter doesn't have exhaust pipes, with a hood even shorter than the Toyota GT. They couldn't even fit an AWD transfer case into a V6 ES, and now we expect this platform to host a V12? As far-fetched as TMC's solid state battery claims are they are a hell lot more believable in both vehicles given the design and layout of these platforms than any large combustion engine. But it makes no difference either way, because at the end of the day it's just another carrot dangling before us.

A twin turbo V8 LS and LC was within the realm of believability. The above projects sound like the wet dreams people have about Mazda and their rotary engine.

Was. And literally after that sentence he said "wow" when he saw the new design.
I mean the design is cool but I guess he just let them do their own thing for the Century SUV. But it doesn't matter now anyways. The passion Akio is putting into this Century coupe project and how it'll act as a renaissance for the Japanese manufacturing industry speaks volume to me. The proportions of the thing are also great.

My thoughts are the Century Coupe would have a TTV8 hybrid. This drivetrain may also eventually replace the 5.0 V8 in the Century sedan. A new V12 would be amazing, but I don't see that happening at all.

The proportions of the LS Coupe make me think it will be BEV only, or possibly a PHEV/HEV with a transverse engine. The concept has no grill, so it's most likely BEV.

I don't think he made it that clear but he was speculating. If you continued to watch the video he says powertrain is unknown but a V12 and electric option would be his guess.

It will probably be V8 powered. Century is a tier below Rolls Royce, and is likely more inline with Bentley.

Higher chance that Subaru will make a new Flat 6 than Toyota will make a new V12 lol /s. Aussie car websites are known for making stuff up to get views, much like quite a number of Japanes car websites. Also, sucks to see car review outlets like UK's Autocar go from a legit car magazine that tests cars properly, to one that relies on their own made up rumours and being paid to aggressively advertise EVs to survive.
