As I typically post each year, here are some of the major auto shows coming up, so those of you who are interested can plan in advance and work them into your schedule.

The Canadian International Show, in Toronto, will be from February 13 - 23, 2020 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center.

The Los Angeles Auto Show will be from November 22 to December 1, 2019, at the L.A. Convention Center. Recently, we have seen a number of new-vehicle introductions and unveilings there....which makes sense, as it is now considered the country's largest new-vehicle market.

(I hope that Ford unveils the new Bronco there, but I suspect that, since it is now considered a 2021 model-year-vehicle, not a 2020, they may wait and unveil it somewhere else...or just wait for another show, or do it apart from a show, like Chevy did with the mid-engine Corvette)

There's a BIG change at the Detroit/North American International Show, typically the largest show in the industry......though L.A. has almost caught up to it in importance, and the D.C. show has gotten significantly larger and more important in recent years. Next year, the Detroit show will be from moved from January to June.......June 6 - 20, 2020 (including the pre-show events). Since that is six months later than they have had it in the past, it will be interesting to see how many new-vehicle introductions they will continue having there.

Detroit's weather, however, can be absolutely miserable in January, so perhaps having the show in warm weather makes sense. I remember one time (don't recall exactly which year), where, on the opening-date of the show, it was -18 degrees outside, a strong wind blowing, and something like a foot or a foot and a half of snow that had to be cleared. I suspect that the Toronto show in February, weather-wise, is sometimes not a piece of cake, either.

The Atlanta International Auto Show will be held from February 26 - March 1, 2020, at the Georgia World Congress Center. Atlanta is now a huge new-vehicle market...(arguably) the third-largest in the U.S., behind Los Angeles and the D.C/Baltimore region.

The New York International Show will be held from April 10 - April 19, 2020....the April date for them is traditional. This is a very big show, despite the fact that the city itself relies on mass-transit more than many other American cities do, and much of the population doesn't even own a vehicle.

For those of you in and around Philly, the Philadelphia show will be held on February 8 - 17, 2020....almost concurrent with Baltimore.

Ian, for you and the others in the Baltimore Area, if you don't make it to the D.C. show, the Motor Trend International Show in Baltimore will be held, in its customary February period, at the Baltimore Convention center, from February 6 - 9, 2020.

And, of course, my stomping-grounds....the Washington, D.C. Auto Show. Last time, they moved it from January to early April...I didn't care for that, for several reasons. Next year, it moves back to late January.......January 24 - February 2, 2020. The D.C. show differs from some of the other major shows in that it is more locally dealer-sponsored (WANADA) than from the manufacturers themselves, though the manufacturers do send "Product Specialists" to co-ordinate things and answer questions. Besides now being in the second-largest new-vehicle market in the country (behind Los Angeles), it is also the show nearest the Federal Government, where the U.S. auto industry is regulated, and Presidents and Members of Congress sometimes attend. Also (I believe unique to this show), free tickets and show-passes can often be had just by stopping at new-vehicle dealerships in the D.C. area and asking for them...they usually will give you a couple if they have any on hand. A couple of years, I managed to get VIP passes....each one is good for 4 persons. I remember, when I was a Saturn customer back in the 1990s, Saturn would send me a couple of tickets in the mail each year, in addition to what I picked up at the dealership.

Sorry, folks.....I forgot a big one. Chicago's show will run February 8 - 17 next year.

And for you, Steve (IS-SV), the San Francisco Show will run November 28 - December 2 this year, and the Silicon Valley (San Jose) show January 9 - 12, 2020.

Let me throw my hometown Miami's Auto Show in here. It is indisputable that the "top tier" U.S. auto shows are Chicago, New York, Detroit and Los Angeles, but Miami (along with Washington, D.C. and Orange County, CA) stand at the top of the "second tier" of U.S. auto shows based on a combination of attendance and venues for new model debuts. Arguably Miami's most significant premiere was the world debut of the Saturn Vue crossover back in 2001 (2002 model year). Since then, it's mostly been new variants of existing models intros, including the 4th-gen IS midlife refresh in 2016. Admittedly, after the double whammy of that half-sized 2016 show (due to Miami Beach Convention Center renovations) and the 2017 show's outright cancellation due to Hurricane Irma, the show has struggled somewhat to get back on its feet. (We already discussed some of this in the "2019 Washington, D.C. Auto Show moves to April" thread).

Admittedly, I have a bit of a vested interest in this, since, for the second year in a row, I'll be one of the 5 SAMA (Southern Automotive Media Association) jurors choosing the "best in show" in 5 different categories.

This year, the Miami Auto Show returns to L.A.'s shadow with a run from November 1 - 10, 2019. No word yet on the 2020 dates.

Here's the info for this year's SEMA show (November 5 - 8, 2019) in Las Vegas, although it is a much different kind of show from the other ones posted here. Not my cup of tea, but I know the SEMA show, nonetheless, is quite popular with a number of you folks.
