Every Lexus dealership that wants to be a GR dealership pretty much have already committed. GR GT training is starting mid-May. Every GR dealership must choose a GR GT Meister who will represent the GR product and ultimately be the GR Salesperson. No idea yet on if all GR products will be sold only through a GR dealership. Sounds a bit weird to sell a GR Corolla at a Lexus dealership but we will have to wait and see. I work for a Lexus dealership in the Denver area, 18 years. I have the honor of being our GR GT Meister! My training will be for 4 days early in June. First day is classroom, 2nd and 3rd are full race days with racing suits and helmets! I am hoping we get to drive the GR GT's at near their limits!! Then the last day is back in the classroom. I cannot wait! 12 sessions with 12 Meisters per session. So only 144 dealerships opted in? We will see.

Lexus has sent out and email asking about our back ground with this segment, racing experience and my favorite cars and cars I have owned. I have had 45 cars in the last 26 years so not enough space to list them all. lol.

I am very excited, trilled, honored and elated to be part of the GR GT program! Looks like we are getting started early in training even though we do not even have a launch date yet. Hope there will be more sessions to come with other GR products!

I am curious as to the next Supra and the LC replacement product. I hope Gazoo Racing uses the current LC chassis as the base for the MK5 Supra and takes the LC500 to the next level in performance with AWD, Hybrid assisted and twin Turboed V8. But that might be too much as we are approaching the GR GT performance levels. I am sure Toyota would not want to compete with it's own products. Maybe a Luxury Coupe with AWD, V8 Turbos and Hybrid? A Luxury Coupe version of the GR GT to compete with Luxury German Coupes? Perhaps a GR LC? I'm just dreaming! Also hoping the MR2 will be a Gazoo Racing product along with the Celica.
Stay tuned for more thrilling episodes of GR GT info and GR GT wishing channel!
Are you connected with the dealership network and to Lexus in any way? I have some ideas.

I am not sure how much Lexus wants me to share about the event and training so I will update after the training, once I have more info and permission from Lexus! It will be interesting to see if only a Lexus Gazoo dealerships will be allowed to sell GR products. I am pretty sure the GR GT will be an amazing car so not much more to say about it other then how much and how many. I have owned a few high performance cars (but nothing to this level) so curious to see how they stack up to the GR GT. Stayed tuned!

"hand-picked group of buyers"

In other words, influencers. My god, everything makes so much more sense with the decisions for GR as a brand when you see it as Akio's attempt to turn it into his cult of personality.

This is what Porsche does for the GT3 RS. You have to do on-track training to buy one since it's a "barely street legal" car. Plenty of ultra luxury and super car brands filter their buyers so no need to over-react here.

Nah. I don't think it will actually be influencers. It will be passionate people. Your hatred for Akio is completely blinding you here.

There's certainly an overlap with GT3 RS's somehow magically landing in the hands of many influencers despite some having never bought a Porsche in their lives, but I digress. Mat Watson being a prime example.

Very fun comments section...

The other issue here is that, conspiracy theories aside, allocations (on paper) for these sorts of vehicles are determined by prior multi-purchase loyal owners of said brand. No such thing exists for GR as a brand - the standard for selecting allocations will be based entirely on connections which unfortunately usually means influencers have the upper hand - and Toyota knows this.

The funny about all this is that I distinctly remember Akio claiming that he wanted to make the GR GT a "more attainable" vehicle than the LFA.

Matt Watson has had enthusiast cars before, and he IS a car enthusiast. I think its okay if it ends up in the garages of CAR enthusiast influencers, not like some nonsensical influencer who basically just capitalizes off ruining kids' childhoods for views and posting slop.

I think his rationale behind GRGT being more attainable is the fact that there is still a next-gen LFA that exists to fill the upper niche. The problem is, its an EV.

Watson to my knowledge has only bought a single vehicle from Porsche prior to getting the GT3, and I'm not even sure if it was new. As a Porsche owner he wouldn't remotely qualify for a GT3. But of course, since he is an influencer and massively well known online... well that's my point. They get special treatment.

I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow gets a GR GT allocation - ironically he has actually owned a GR Yaris.

That makes no sense whatsoever...

Matt Watson is a car dealer, not a car guy. This is all just business. Car companies are not run or staffed with car people.

Trying this with GR is embarrassing. What an arrogant company.

It makes no sense, but it's true.
