It would be kind of cool if BMW positioned Alpina like Maybach, since they already have M for performance. While they're usually known for the performance modifications, they do have a history of upping the ante with luxury upgrades too.

Just a random idea.

I wonder whats the play here?
They are niche as heck, somewhat like you know M?
They dont believe in electric vehicles demand at least publicly so the polestar txt of alpina is kinda out.

Alpina is meant for having BMW's go at really high speed but doing it in absolute luxury. M is meant to be BMW's on crack, and using their racing knowledge.

I did not know much about Alpina, but I stumbled upon a video on youtube from 2 years ago - a guy was given a full tour of their factory. I never realized Alphina is such a small establishment, they are essentially a boutique, where most everything is meticulously made by hand. They do outsource some of their production, but their quality control extremely strict, they reject parts over the tiniest blemishes. I also learned that they make and sell parts and offer on premises factory repairs/rebuilds on pretty much all of their models that they ever produced, even from the 60ies when they first started.

I have a whole new respect for their operation, I hope the merger with BMW wont mainstream and diminish them the way they did it with the M.

This is the video I watched, it is in Russian, but still may be informative just to see around the factory.

Alpinas also looked classy. Now nothing can hide the BMW ugliness, not even Alpina.
