The Highlander D-4ST test mule have been spotted for a while, but everyone expected it to carry over the 8AR-FTS. Designing an engine specifically for ChDM is weird to me, since pure ICEVs won't have much life time left anyway. Maybe this will also appear in a hybridized form in the future (e.g. replace 2.4T in 500h with 2.0T to make 450h).

Yup. But I'm nit sure why to make a new 2L turbo. Maybe the 8ar isn't good enough compared to their dynamic force set up. I doubt this new turbo would come to North America anyways.
Displacement tax.

I could see a scenario where the T24 ends up in larger SUVs and the S20 ends up in sedans and smaller SUVs. S20 might be a good fit in the Camry, ES, IS, Rav4, and UX.

Im surprised the the 8AR didnt see more use outside the 1st gen NX, current gen IS? That thing has more pull then the base NX motor currently and seeing how it had been out for almost 6-7 years its dev costs would have been recouped.

I don't quite see the point of the S20 in the US. The Camry, ES, IS, Rav4, and UX can have 240hp just by way of doing the A25 hybrid with far better gas mileage.

Greeting LE's friends! GAC-Toyota have start announce some detail for 2.0T version ChDM Highlander, in preview article, the 2.0T highlander badged "380T", it mean S20A spec are almost clear, 248PS power and 380Nm torque.
In article GAC-Toyota said it pair with "new extended gear shift ratio 8AT in first time", that need nameplate check when they invite media or send demo car in dealership.

What's more important is that the S20 is an "imported" engine. This could mean it's not limited to ChDM. Next-gen Camry could be a good candidate to receive it replacing the V6.

I also wonder whether this "extended ratio 8AT" is just to reduce fuel consumption for CAFE compliance.

Allright...... That's quite expensive huh.... ChDM "Highlander 380T" has been announce the price. It starting at 314.8k RMB(≈46661USD) to 344.8k RMB(≈51108USD)
It just only less 4k RMB compare with ChDM hybrid version.😓S20A official name "Turbo Dynamic Force Engine"
The S20A 2.0T maximum power is 182kW/6000rpm, max torque is 380Nm/1800-4000rpm

I don't see the S20 going into Camry. They can get the Camry to 240hp by just using newer/more powerful hybrid systems with the A25.
