Excellent read. Lutz, I thought, as usual, did the best job of explaining what went wrong. If he had been at the helm, instead of Eaton (and you can pin that on Iacocca), I'm sure that merger would have gone a lot differently. Schrempp simply walked all over Bob Eaton.

This article partly, but not totally, explains the reasons for Chrysler's poor quality control and cheap materials during that period, but those problems also went back for several decades before that.
