12th Generation E120 Toyota Corolla Thread (Hatch, Sedan, Cross, GR)

Agree! I enjoy driving a ‘21 XSE HB with 6-speed as my daily driver. I was hoping to replace it with another in a few years. It’s likely that I will hold onto mine for quite a while. Perhaps I will consider a GR Corolla as a fun car one day?

    Another one bites the dust

I suppose those at Kia responsible for analyzing market trends expect to see a continual decline in demand for the K5 (as the numbers posted in the article seem to indicate), otherwise this is simply speculation at this point. Given the increasing demand for CUVs this is not surprising. Maybe...

12th Generation E120 Toyota Corolla Thread (Hatch, Sedan, Cross, GR)

Great information. Thanks for posting. I noticed Matt Maran recording his video on the GR Corolla in the background as I watched this video. I just finished watching Matt’s video, as a matter of fact. He had many positive things to say about the new Corolla.

12th Generation E120 Toyota Corolla Thread (Hatch, Sedan, Cross, GR)

I have read his work and watched his videos for years. I’m not lost on his love for the WRX. I think you’re spot on with your assessment.

12th Generation E120 Toyota Corolla Thread (Hatch, Sedan, Cross, GR)

Lieberman’s automotive critiques are hit or miss, for me. I’m a bit surprised that he’s taken this stance considering he sang Toyota’s praises when he reviewed the Corolla XSE Hatch with the 6-speed manual transmission not too long ago. Many of these auto journalists look at the hard numbers...

    2022 Subaru WRX

Good points. It feels as if Subaru took the traditional compact sedan design and from that point tried to make it different, rather than create a truly different car design from the ground up. Honestly, the new WRX looks more like a traditional compact sedan than current generations of the Civic...

    2022 Subaru WRX

With every new generation of the WRX, comes the internet backlash about its styling. I think most people suffer from automotive design amnesia because the WRX has never really been an attractive car. (I admit that I have liked every generation, but what can I say? I have poor taste?) It’s design...

    Rumor: Lexus Considers Sub-UX Crossover

I agree. I will go as far as to say that the US is hardly a really good market for the UX, let alone an even smaller model. While US consumers like even small CUVs, the UX doesn’t really have that CUV vibe, unlike much of its competition, including Audi and BMW. Even the smallest Audi CUV models...

12th Generation E120 Toyota Corolla Thread (Hatch, Sedan, Cross, GR)

Which trim level do you have, @mikeavelli? As a former owner of a ‘19 UX 250h and current owner of a ‘21 Corolla HB XSE 6-speed, I am curious to read any additional impressions of the Corolla HB. You mentioned figuring out the Toyota app. I am actually still using the Lexus app, but now I am...

    Tesla Model 3 Performance

Thank you for your review. Good critique. I get what you mean in regards to Tesla fans calling out critics of the brand and labeling them as haters. It’s as if Elon himself pays these people to troll the critics online.

Why new-car fuel economy numbers are so depressing

Over 7 USD for a gallon of gas is insane, through my lens. How does this compare to what one would typically pay for a gallon of gas in Portugal? In some respects, I see the lure of the modern SUV or crossover; they often possess more cargo space than the typical automobile and they are easier...

Why new-car fuel economy numbers are so depressing

Great points. I had almost forgotten about the oil price wars between Russia and Saudi Arabia and you’re spot on in regards to the Big 3 strength being in their pickups. I will also add to that their larger SUVs. Unfortunately for the Big 3, they no longer have a portfolio that contains smaller...

Why new-car fuel economy numbers are so depressing

It’s interesting to watch this market and its impact on the auto industry, especially since the global market collapse of 2008 when we saw the cost of crude oil-based products skyrocket. Immediately, auto manufacturers, especially those based out of the U.S., scrambled to react to the then new...

Lexus UX (UX 200, UX 250h, 300e) Megathread

As a former owner of a UX 250h, yes, former (I will address this in a moment), I have to agree with your post. The UX, in my opinion, is a beautifully designed automobile and was comfortable (for me). The car fit me like a baseball glove. In my opinion, it is a niche model (style-wise and size)...

    Paint Chip/Peeling in Odd Area

Thank you for your response, Sulu. I’m glad the dealer agreed to cover the repair and hope your ES doesn’t experience similar issues in the future. I believe the rear hatch of the UX is comprised of a resin, so at least I don’t think I will have to worry about rust. I just don’t like having a...

    Paint Chip/Peeling in Odd Area

Greetings! While detailing my 2019 UX 250h, I noticed a spot on the rear hatch, just under the corner of the rear window (passenger side), where the paint had started to peel back. It is in an odd location where it is unlikely that a rock would strike this part of the car. The exterior paint...

    2021 Lexus IS Megathread

Beautiful automobile. I love how the designers married the new Lexus design language with some existing IS styling cues. I would love for Lexus to update the powertrain options for the new IS and even would like to see the IS progress to a new platform, but it appears that there are enough...

    2021 Lexus IS Megathread

The only way I see Lexus develop two different designs of the same model, or two different models at the same price point, for different markets, is if the model is built on a new global architecture. Many manufacturers, including Lexus, Toyota, and Subaru are doing this for cost savings and...

    2021 Lexus IS Megathread

Agree. A heavy MCE seems to be the most logical move by Lexus given a completely new IS may or may not be in the cards. I wonder if Lexus knows the future of the IS? Is this just a cost-effective strategy by Lexus to decide whether or not to keep the IS going beyond this generation? While I...

Lexus GS F Doug DeMuro reviews the 2020 GSF

You have a point in regards to the positioning of the GSF. This has been blatant in the articles I’ve read and the videos I’ve watched in which the GSF is compared to the Cadillac CTS-V and the high performance variants of the midsize sedans offered by German makes. In many of these reviews the...
