Another thought is that they may be holding back the RXh V6 in the future because they want some gap between it and the LQh, or whatever it ends up being called.
There's probably more to it than that, but that's the main difference that popped into my head. A quick Googling shows that the GS 450h is rated at 338hp, while the LC 500h is rated at 354hp.
Yes. 450h, I believe, uses a 2GR variant and a normal CVT, while the 500h uses (and correct me if I'm wrong) an 8GR variant and the compound transmission (CVT+4AT). The engine designations may vary based on what market it was built for.
Edit: Also, the 500h is only available in RWD right now...
I forgot that the RX got the updated 2GR and 8AT back in 2015 for MY2016. I think TMC is gonna sit on that powertrain for a couple more years before rolling out something else because it's been on mass-produced Toyotas for less time and they wanna milk it.
Eh, I dunno how well a ttV6 would be recieved. I still think that a 3UR-FKS or similar large NA V8 would be the best way for them to go forward with their large trucks (including Tundra, Land Cruiser, etc...).
Wow. That's nuts. That's about $15k US just for the license plates/registration? I had no idea it was so expensive over there. I assume there's annual renewal, too. Here, in the US, it's less than a thousand for a new vehicle in most places (I think).
Happy New Year to you, too!
I'm a little ashamed to say this, but I've never owned a Lexus. Maybe this year the hunt will begin in earnest. I'm thinking an older IS or GS for a summer daily and save the truck for winter/snow. Maybe even a 90s SC 400.
Maybe it has as much to do with normal-range acceleration as it does with raw power figures. The UX 200 is rated at 8.9s and the 250h at 8.6s 0-60mph. Maybe the "300e" would target the low-8s, whatever power ratings may be required for that. I know it's a very different vehicle, but the ES300h...
Camry Hybrid base model is now on li-ion because of less weight, possibly lower cost. The higher trims are heavier to begin with so the weight penalty is less pronounced.
Don't be so serious. I tried to make a funny by implying that a hypothetical new IS 5-door hatchback might be shaped like, um, an IS 5-door hatchback. Trust me, I know tons of people who hate wagons here unless they're lifted with AWD.
I just realized that Lexus is pulling over four billion dollars in revenue on just the RX in the US this year. That's insane money to me. Profit is another matter, but I'm sure they're raking it in. Combine that with the 1 million+ Camrys, Corollas, and Rav4s sold pulling another twenty billion...
