Yep ugh, does Toyota give all their subsidiaries too much freedom? Because I feel like they do, or are they so big that it's nearly impossible to keep all their subdivisions on a tight leash?

WEC's race organisers sure is trying hard to hold back Toyota from winning this years 24 hours of Le Mans, suddenly changing BoP just 9 days before the race starts on June 10th, and that's done without all of these race teams consent because apparently the organisers can do almost whatever they want without discussing with all these teams, the original time they were going to do this BoP change is 2 races after the 6 hour of Spa in Belgium and not right before 24 hour of Le Mans, and of course the one that got slapped with weight penalties the hardest is Toyota, having to carry an extra 37 kg, followed by Ferrari at 24 kg, Cadillac at 11 kg and Porsche at just 3 kg. Peugeot, Glickenhaus and Vanwall didn't receive any weight penalties because their cars are already so painfully slow in all parts of a track, especially Glickenhaus and Vanwall, seeing the 2 of them getting harassed by LMP2 cars even when their tires are already up to operating temperature are always amusing sights 🤣. The 2 Ferraris qualified 1st and 2nd, followed by 1 Toyota in 3rd, 1 Porsche in 4th and the other Toyota in 5th.

After the reading this article, it seems like the sudden BoP change is probably because certain team(s) did some bitchin' to the organisers behind everyone else's backs, I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche is the one or part of the one that complained to the organisers, because they have a long history of complaining to the race organisers and subsequently the organisers will give Porsche exactly what they want, like a parent spoiling a bratty child.

Motorsport built Porsche's entire image and market position.

That's why people stopped watching WEC or any race class with BoP in general. BoP is no longer about close racing but about organizers choosing the winners arbitrarily. Any BoP series has nothing to do with engineering ingenuity or driver skill, it's just about which team principal whines the most when things don't go their way.

I don't understand why Lexus even put that much effort into the LFR GT3 program. There's no point doing that because if it's too good it just gets balanced. The RC-F GT3 has one of the worst chassis in the field yet can still be successful because it had power advantage. Let's not pretend to think the RC-F is a good race car. It's only relevant because of its larger restrictor plates and huge boost cuts at high rpm on turbo engines making NA engines advantageous under current BOP.

BoP is just against the spirit of any sport. Imagine Usain Bolt having to run with lead filled shoes.

They even came out and said that they expected a BoP change before Le Mans even though the BoP change was supposed to happen for Monza. Ferrari was doing really well behind the Toyotas, and the Cadillacs are stupidly fast and it's by far the best LMDh that's in WEC. Porsche is 4th and they can't handle that, so they start whining.

Toyota built an absolute behemoth this year with the EVO package on the GR010. In Sebring it had the second lowest power and the highest weight and it ran away from everyone. In Portimao and Spa, the BoP was relaxed in favor of the Toyotas, and it was an even more embarrassingly dominant win.

Normally BoP's happen with the permission of every single manufacturer. However, that's not what happened this time around. The ACO did this behind EVERYONE'S backs and did it to favor Porsche and Peugeot. The Peugeots (5th fastest), Glicks (6th fastest) and Vanwall (slowest) struggled still but the Glicks are terrifyingly fast on the straights.

This should be an easy Toyota win if nothing goes wrong, but now it's an artificial fight between Toyota, Ferrari, Cadillac, and Porsche. Thank God the Porsche still sucks ass (even with the favorable BoP) because it chews through its tires and is a pig of a racecar.

However, for us Toyota guys, there is some good news. Kamui in the 7 was on par with the Ferrari in the first sector and was on track to get 2nd in Hyperpole but the 3 Cadillac spontaneously combusted so the lap was sadly abandoned. Toyota are still the best in terms of overall race pace and have more electrical energy to deploy per lap so that's hugely beneficial for us. The GR010 is also VERY KIND to its tires, it's significantly a better car to drive than everyone else's cars, and we can credit that to the GR010 being a veteran in the Hypercar class with this year being its third year of competition. It will be replaced by the GR020 next year.

I'm now watching the race, and it's so obvious who are benefiting the most from this sudden BoP change, no big surprises here it's the Porsches, solely relying on straight line speed to keep one of the Toyotas behind, every time a corner comes up that Toyota is able to close the gap on the Porsches but so far having a really hard time to overtake the Porsche even when in their slipstream.

Edit: the Porsches are starting to break down, one got a punctured tire while fighting both Toyotas, another one got a drive through penalty for overtaking one of the cars when they weren't allowed to do so and the other one slid sideways into a barrier.

It doesn't even matter if Toyota wins this year WEC, losing 24 hours of Le Mans is like having a big shiet stain slapped onto your results for all the races of the whole year.

I don't get that last minute BoP sh*t, whats the point of building a good car if they are going to slap some random weights anyway. Stupid af. So gutted.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. Motorsport has both economic and... uhhh... cultural purposes for the people who run them and the companies that participate. That stuff is technical cover so that "the wrong people" don't make "them" look bad.

The fact they did as well as they did despite that is great. Makes me excited for what benefits we'll see on the consumer side.

Toyota should have pulled out in the last minute in protest. History narative is not going to look right for them: They won when no one was racing and as soon as there was factory competition they faded. Ferrari has to thank that 37kg bop for their maiden win.
