I've heard about this in the Tokyo Auto Salon (where they also released the GR Super Sport Concept), and I cannot be any more happier. Lexus is really opening their racing division. This will help them a lot. I know we lack F models, but this will allow Lexus to resurge again from the LFA, IS F and GS F.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see F models popping in really soon (the newest one coming in a year or so), as the last F model (GS F) was released way back in 2015. I think the F lineup would turn out like this if they choose to follow Mercedes-Benz's playbook.
- IS F/RC F/NX F (if they move it to a RWD platform)
- ES F/RX F (if they move both to a RWD platform)
- GS F/GX F
- LC F/LS F/LF-1 F??????
- LX F (fighting the Geländewagen and other higher level cars)
I don't think UX needs an F model. A turbo 4 from the IS would do it wonders. It doesn't even need the future upgrades that will come, but knowing Lexus I wouldn't be surprised if they improved it to gain a better response.
We had discussions on how the ES was going to potentially be a RWD car but instead took the Camry platform. There is always time to correct it.
