Compared to Mercedes at +11.3%, BMW at +5.2% and Audi at +3.8%, each of which settings its own global sales record in 2016, Lexus' market share actually shrunk for the year.

Hopefully the new LS and LC will get the brand's momentum rolling again.
That intervention was need LexFather! Can we congratulate Lexus on their most successful sales year in history for 10 seconds before harping on how they lost market share? The brand's momentum is rolling, they just had a record year.
Lexus still has a very limited lineup compared to the Germans. Still considering sales are up in Europe as well.
This is actually the only year in Lexus' entire history other than 2011 the tsunami year where its sales growth trailed behind that of the overall luxury market and where its market share shrunk (please look up the past sales data). That's hardly a momentum worth congratulating on, especially when the brand has so much more room to grow than its main competition. Sales increase itself means little if it lags behind the increase of the overall market. Can we congratulate Lexus on their most successful sales year in history for 10 seconds before harping on how they lost market share? I really hope Lexus is alarmed rather than content when looking at this "record" sales volume.
Lexus International is reporting 677,615 vehicles sold globally in 2016, a 4% increase over 2015 and the fourth consecutive record year of sales.
The big story this year was China breaking the 100k threshold with 109,151 total sales — this is the first time any region outside of the USA has eclipsed this mark.
Europe also had a banner year with 74,316 units sold, with 10 countries in the region setting new sales records. Japan followed with 42,149 vehicles sold, good enough for second overall in that country’s luxury market.
Lexus Europe sold 74,316 units last year, an increase of 16.5% vs. 2015. Hybrid vehicles accounted for 60% of Lexus Europe total sales, reaffirming Lexus’ strong hybrid leadership in the premium market. The share of hybrid vehicles even climbed to 98% in Western European countries.
The NX was the top seller for Lexus Europe in 2016 with 26,105 units sold, followed by the RX with 18,074 units. 2016 saw the introduction of the all-new, 4th generation RX, resulting in a sales increase of 163% vs. 2015.
Several countries recorded best-ever annual sales in 2016, including Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
In Russia, Lexus Europe’s largest market with 24,120 units sold in 2016, sales increased by 19% despite a premium market decrease by 4%. This resulted in an increase of the Lexus share of the premium market, which reached 16% in 2016.
Well said!!Working with Lexus directly I can tell you they are some of the smartest people on the planet in regards to their respective fields. The members here are very intelligent as well.I am sure they are well aware of changes in market share, which could be for a multitude of reasons.
This isn't the place to bash and diss Lexus at ever single turn finding any single reason to discredit the brand. This place has an actual relationship with Lexus and we are proud to support the brand and actually own the cars. Here is the article KREW posted;.
Well hot damn that is good news.
Wow that is an amazing story. Why not highlight that amazing feat for Lexus?
Wait, 10 countries setting records? Japan 2nd?
How can anyone read that and not stand and clap?
Why not both? Yes. Lexus made strides in Asia and Europe, while RX hit 100.000 units sold in US: Great.(...)

It seems like Lexus performs great when it comes to SUV's, but for some reason it can't get a foothold with sedans in Europe. Just imagine how well the CT/IS/GS/LS would sell if they were percieved as a legit alternates to offerings of different sausage lengths from the big three in Europe!
But. Lexus lost market share against two of the three main competitors: Not great.
