I'm a little sad that the new ES hasn't improved its sales but it is probably because Lexus now has so many new models to choose from. The ES was usually the go-to Lexus (or the RX) to buy. Anyways, still very good from Lexus! Keep it up! The new LC, RC Convertible (I still have hope), and (hopefully soon) new LS will make 2016 remarkable for Lexus! A new CT is rumored to go on sale too - not so sure about what will happen with the GX though.

RX is relatively consistent, and the ES is down a bit (10%).

Looking at the sales environment:
- NX was introduced and running very strong
- GX has continued it's sales streak stronger than ever, and it has a less expensive base model (intro'ed in 2014)
- 3IS has been the most popular generation yet
- Lexus has been offering great lease deals on the 15 GS, and we now have the lower priced GS 200t for 2016

Both RX and ES have more competition coming from above and below - and it's in house!

It's becoming clear that Lexus' "core" sales models are looking more like NX, RX, IS, ES vs. RX/ES alone by a large margin, as they were years ago.

Even GS and GX, at an average of ~2k sales per month each, are selling in far more mainstream sales volumes than they were at points in the past.

Darn, Lexus missed BMW by just 1.5k in sales for the crown. New models NX (and lesser degree RC) have contributed considerably, otherwise without them, about 286k units.

100k units for the RX continues to amaze me. However, we still don't know the effects of the redesign. Let's see if sales in Jan can hit at least 8k units.

On a somewhat related note, Acura, take the RLX out of its misery with 2195 sales for the ENTIRE year! You killed the Legend moons ago and the RL/RLX is a flop.

I'll post some detailed analysis later. This has been a very exciting year for Lexus and the industry as a whole. Some really crazy figures I'm noticing in December.

Lexus has a ton of momentum rolling into 2016 and with the new LC coming and with the recent refreshes and new additions they might get the sales crown back!

Nicely done Lexus in 2015 (outselling Mercedes who suffered with SUV supply in last half during NPI's).

Nicely done Buick in 2015 (outselling Audi who might have suffered just by being associated with VW).

Interesting to me that Cadillac is still selling so many SRXs this late into the product cycle - 7,031 of them last month.

Makes me think the XT5 has the potential to give RX a run for it's money, or solidly stay in second place, at least.

Also, new Q7 doesn't seem to have done much for Audi. 1,200 of them?

Agreed on both counts.....but Audi's reliability reputation has vastly improved in the last few years. (which Consumer Reports verifies). That may increase its appeal in the future. The brand, despite its association with VW, has gone from being classic money-pits after the warranty-expiration to #3 brand overall in reliability........right behind Lexus and Toyota. Buick reliability now also ranks quite high....top among American automakers (and, interestingly enough, sharply better than Cadillac).

In fact, a colleague of mine just took home a new Buick Encore a few days ago. He had asked me about the Chevy Trax, but, when he saw the Encore, agreed it was a lot nicer small SUV for just a few more $$$$ (though IMO both are slightly underpowered). I referred him to the same guy who sold me my own Buick, who gave him an excellent deal....essentially an Encore at a Trax price. He took one home that same day. ;)

Also speaking of Audi, one interesting figure (at least IMO) is the Q5's numbers for 2015 besting the hot-selling Lexus NX.

My 12 cents

SRX and Enclave are both older but they have both aged well and are just damn good SUVs.

Note the more expensive revised GLE and GLE Coupe outsold the MDX.

Note that the much more expensive BMW X5 sold just as many units as the Acura MDX, which was down in 2015 YTD. I am assuming the X3 is capacity strained since they only sell 2-3k here a month. I'm sure that is a 5k a month SUV easy.

The QX60 had a huge month for Infiniti as they are blowing them out for the new revised model. That vehicle has been a grand slam for them in regards to sales.

Note also the GLC is now here replacing the GLK which will have leftover units being sold.

The Q5 sold 6k units I believe for the first time. The NX outsold the RDX for the first time.

The new Q7 arrives in full force I believe February/March so they will have a couple more slow months. Driving reviews have been great, the interior of course is well done but I wonder if the bland wagon styling will put people off.

Just added Volvo and the new XC90 had a big month, 3,135 units. That SUV is going to do very well. Their XC60 SUV also had a strong month.

Lexus

2015 market share 0.50 per cent (up from 0.47 per cent)

With the new NX crossover, Lexus appears to have found a purpose in life. That’s good for the brand, because our appetite for non-European premium saloons is virtually non-existent.

SRX and Enclave are both older but they have both aged well and are just damn good SUVs.

One reason the Enclave does so well is not only its plush interior (where it out-Buicks even most Buicks LOL), but, like its sister Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, has one of the very few 3rd-row seats large enough for typical American adults without going up to the full-size RWD V8 class. I could fit into the Enclave's 3rd-row seat myself....which is saying something, though I know you are an inch or two taller than me.

I don't really have much of an explanation for the SRX's success (?)......IMO, it's awkward-looking, poorly-styled, not particularly space-efficient inside, and does not have a good reliability record from Consumer Reports. The upcoming XT5 (except maybe for the CUE system) will probably be a significant improvement.

the QX60 had a huge month for Infiniti as they are blowing them out for the new revised model. That vehicle has been a grand slam for them in regards to sales.

If you remember the JX35 (Q60) review I did, I said then that, discounting the long-discontinued QX4, it was probably Infiniti's first "Normal" SUV in terms of styling, execution, and general platform. Most of the SUVs which preceded it had a number of visual or operational quirks in them somewhere.

The NX outsold the RDX for the first time.

It's odd...I don't know about Atlanta where you live, but, here in the D.C. area (where just about everything sells), the RDX has never seemed to do well. The 1Gen did so poorly that Acura completely started from scratch on the 2Gen model, making it much more mainstream, softer, and less-sport-oriented...and even that did not seem very successful.
