Even though it was expected, this is still a tough moment: Lexus appears ready to end LC production later this year and send its flagship coupe off into history. In a letter sent to dealers and shared with Lexus Enthusiast, dealerships were notified that LC 500 production will cease in August.
With a nine year production run and more than 15,000 units sold across LC 500, LC 500h, coupe, convertible, and Inspiration Series cars, the LC will go down in history as one of Lexus’ most iconic models. The 2012 LF-LC concept car stunned the world and sent buyers and media into a frenzy wanting the coupe sent to production as close-to-concept as possible.
In 2018, Lexus did just that when they revealed the LC 500 and LC 500h production vehicles. Through its production run, the LC 500 received mechanical, cosmetic, and technology upgrades each year along with a run of Inspiration Series models that had unique trim, colors, options, and finishes.
As Lexus closes the books on the LC, the incredible 5.0L V8 engine also ceases production, and Lexus will no longer have a V8 vehicle or coupe in the lineup.
It’s a sad moment for buyers and enthusiasts, and dealers as well. LC owners are a lucky bunch as the coupe punched well above its weight with supercar looks, flagship interior quality, and one of the very best V8 engines in the business.
RIP LC, you will be sorely missed.
