Updated Lexus ES Spied Again

An updated Lexus ES has been spied in China once again, following up on the first time it was spotted earlier this month.

New images provide a better look at the refreshed details in the front and rear ends including a revised headlight design, updated grill pattern, new rear horizontal light bar, L E X U S lettering has replaced the rear emblem, and a new, larger screen in the in the center of the dashboard.

The silver car seen here is an ES 300h, but there is no word on the black ES and what powertrain it might have.

With both ES leaks originating in China, it’s possible that what we see here could be a ChDM (Chinese Domestic Market) ES and not one destined for the global stage, but hopefully official information is released soon to give us final answers.

Disappointed with removal of physical buttons, somehow it looks less premium than the last, the clock just seems out of place.

They literally copied my car. I added the Aliexpress tail light bar, and the ambient light strips by the wood strips on the dash.

Too bad they got rid of so many physical buttons.

Hopefully they used this opportunity to redesign the dash material that permanently scuffs if you so much as rub a tissue across it.

I was hoping they would redesign the main instrument cluster to be all screen, it appears to be unchanged.

Surely this model needs a complete re design?
This basic shape since about 2014 if my memory serves me correctly.

ES exterior design is very good, doesn't need changing. What they need is a thorough interior refresh.

Agreed.
What they need is a thorough interior refresh.
The infotainment system has been changed to the latest Lexus Interface, like the latest NX and RX, but the screen is not as well integrated into the dashboard as the Toyota Crown lineup and the new Camry.

As @ES300h mentioned, the interior dashboard material needs to change to something that is not easily scuffed and scratched, but I doubt that will happen.

The greatest changes will come in the powertrain options -- 5th-gen Hybrid, availability of PHEV option (hopefully) and availability of BEV options (I assume). I believe that the BEV availability will be good, at least giving Lexus in North America a mainstream BEV option. Sell that model and listen to owner feedback of the BEV powertrain and improve bit-by-bit, year-to-year.

I hope this is a China-special model and would never released in the US. There is no design to this facelift. A product that doesn't meet the standard of a Lexus global vehicle. ES is due for a big re-design and they are not allowed to make mistake and deliver some cheaply designed facelift for their best selling car like this.
