Recent news and speculation around Lexus coupes has been plentiful but new information indicates that a Lexus coupe is being co-developed with the next-generation Toyota Supra for release in 2026.
Next Generation A100 Toyota Supra Planned for 2026
Best Car recently shared information about the “A100” next-generation Toyota Supra and believes Toyota will end their partnership with BMW which produced the current Supra and Z4. With this, it’s expected that the new Supra will once again be a fully Toyota engineered, manufactured, and produced product when it is released.
Toyota is expected to utilize the newly developed 4-cylinder, 2-liter turbocharged hybrid engine with two tunes. The design seen here is said to have similar proportions to the current generation Supra, so it’s possible the image produced by Best Car could be directionally accurate with the Supra we might eventually see in production.
The transmission is expected to either be an 8 or 10-speed automatic transmission, possibly with carbon fiber components. A hybrid battery will be seated in the back portion of the platform, which will improve weight distribution and make the vehicle more balanced.
It is estimated that as the current generation Supra bows out in 2026, the new model will be introduced at the same time.
Lexus’ New Coupe Might Be Built Alongside the New Supra
But what does a new Supra have to do with Lexus? According to Best Car, there will be a Lexus variant of the next-generation Supra. Rumors have pointed towards a new coupe positioned between the existing RC and LC, and this new information further points to the existence of a new Lexus coupe.
The new Supra was initially expected to be a standalone model but sharing development costs with a Lexus coupe makes sense as we have seen elsewhere across both lineups. If Best Car’s information is correct, the powertrains will be similar between the models, but the primary difference is that the Lexus model will be a 2+2 style coupe while the Supra will remain a true 2-seater.
Toyota and Lexus coupes share a storied history between the Supra, Soarer and SC, so if the above information is true, we hope to see the “SC” name return to Lexus’ new coupe.
