Teased: New Lexus F SPORT Model on the Way

Lexus has shared an early look of their next vehicle launch with Lexus Enthusiast, giving us an advance teaser before any other media outlets. But what does this teaser image reveal? Look closely enough, and there’s plenty of information that can be deciphered — let’s take a deep dive and see what’s what.

Despite the blurry details, this is clearly the same cover used on the 2UR-GSE 5.0L V8 engine from the RC F & GS F:

There are certainly no rules in regards to engine cover design, and there’s every possibility of a new powertrain lurking under this plastic shield. However, for the sake of analysis, let’s assume the V8 is the engine. The major difference is the logo — instead of the stylized F of the Lexus high-performance F brand, this new vehicle will be released as an F SPORT product.

The LC 500 is the only existing model to have the V8 and not offer a F SPORT option, but it feels too late in the coupe’s lifecycle to introduce such a model (Lexus does not generally change the engine cover as part of the F SPORT package). It could also be a V8 option for the LS, though again, the timing doesn’t seem right and the chance of aggravating current LS owners seems too great a risk.

All of this runaround logic brings us to the most obvious option — Lexus trademarked the IS 500 nameplate last year, and rumors from the usually-reliable Best Car Magazine suggest a V8 version of the IS has been in the pipeline for some time.

If this ends up being the vehicle behind the teaser, there’s really only one question left — will it simply be an engine option, or will it lead to bigger changes to the sports sedan? Are we about to see the return of IS F, albeit with a different nameplate?

More details are sure to come in the following days, stay tuned for more updates about this vehicle as we get closer to the reveal date.

If it’s selling well with “only” a V6, it will now have a waiting list for it, the last V8 compact sports sedan (given Mercedes is turning to 4 cilindres only).
This also makes me wonder... If this is a F Sport, perhaps the trademarked IS500, can we get down the line the (also) rumored IS F with a turbo V6 or turbo V8?
Turning this engine into a non-F product clearly sends a message, a F needs more performance.

And a shoutout to Lexus, for recognizing this amazing community with this honor of being the firsts to publish it!
IS500 F-Sport makes so much sense, first of all it should be priced reasonably compared to an F model. Which means it should sell ok.
Can't be mated with a 6-speed auto, correct?
My guess is, this is a specially tuned version of the 3.5 Liter V6 TT for an IS500 F-Sport. Definitely, not the 2UR from the RCF/LC500.
They named IS500 F-sport likely not to 'dilute' the F brand like the '43' AMGs. Instead like the more subtle M340i type of naming by BMW.

Wow the influence of this site is incredible!
Along with the Lexus Enthusiast, I was also given the image to share on my channels. It’s great to see Lexus trust us. I’m really enthused on what I’m hearing. My speculation is below. I opened the hood of the IS 350 F-Sport to see how much space is there.

I think it could be an IS 500 F-Sport with the 3.5L TTV6 to compete with the M340i, S4 and C43. I doubt they would put a special engine like the 5.0L V8 in an F-Sport model. I also think it won't simply be an engine transplant only, it will probably have some handling upgrades and maybe even larger brakes.

Another possibility is that it's an RX. The RX is Lexus' most popular model, and a good amount of the RX's I've seen on the road were F-Sports. So I think it would make more sense financially for Lexus to make a sportier version of their best selling model. The GLC43, SQ5 and X3 M40i are also pretty good-selling vehicles.
as much as i used to think V8 or go home, i think the TTv6 for street driving makes sense. won't poopoo putting the V8 in but i'm definitely more open to the blown 6.

If itˋs a more powerful RX I will place an order immediately!
If it's the TTV6 making 450hp, I hope that they get AWD as an option to help with off the line traction.
This gives me hope that Lexus still cares about enthusiasts. Bring on the F onslaught!
Would prefer RWD NA V8, would not be bad with AWD TT V6.
RX that handles as well as a SQ5 would be welcome in my book.

if it's an IS I don't think the added weight of the system will be worth it, but for an RX F-Sport it's definitely necessary.
With the upcoming Acura MDX Type-S, i'm pretty sure it's all about the RX!!!

That late into the cycle?
I thought they said a new F sport model

We have F sport in

UX
NX
RX
IS
RC
LS

Either it's for a brand new model, or a new generation from above or variant of the
GX
LX
LC

As those don't have F sport variant
Here we go speculating again 🤔 what could it be? Stop teasing me!

What was it last time?
Just make it worthy of an AMG, S, M badged competitor and l am sure there will be a lot of takers.

People buying cars that aren't European aren't as ignorant as those buying the new FWD biased vehicles just to be brand snobs.

I'm excited but how could it be worthy of AMG, S, or M? This is just going to be an F Sport model right? I mean hell our full F's couldn't really compete with AMG or M (S I think they were on par but not the RS).

didnt they share V8 engine cover? It will be 5.0L V8.

Options are great.

With germans, you can buy just a seats from S-Line, leave everything else stock.

I didn't mean the full fledged high-end vehicles from Mercedes, Audi or BMW. The mid-level performance trims are also slapped with AMG, S and M badges, aren't they?
I sure hope that would be a different engine. The 5.0L V8 sounds great but is definitely too slow compared to its competitors.
i'd love it to be a detuned V8 and make it cheaper ....i'm probably the only person in the planet to complain that the V8 in the RCF has too much power for street driving. can't really wring it out without speeding like crazy. like 0.5 seconds of aural thrills.
I mean people asked for F-Sport to have more performance. And Lexus IS saying that is coming,

To me it doesn’t matter what they debut, some people are going to complain no matter what it’s called. I’m reading all the comments online and my god some people need hugs.
i think since the name will be IS500 it has to be a 5.0 V8, I mean the 250 is a 2.5 liter and the 350 is a 3.5 so going off of that it should be a 5 liter.

But the LS 500 is 3.5 TTV6
So my guess is IS500 uses TTV6 and the new IS F coming this November will have 5.0. V8

that is true so they could go with the 500 platform and do that or go off the IS platform and follow the numbers. either way I'm happy lol
