Videos: The Lexus LS+ Concept Live at the Tokyo Motor Show

One detail that really crystallized for me when I saw the still photo before you launch the Motor.es video are the flush oval exterior door handles. Once a staple of concept cars, they have now seen at least 3 production applications: Jaguar F-Type, Lexus LC and Range Rover Velar. I love how they tidy up the 5LS's side profile, and wish they would go into production as part of the 5LS's midlife refresh 3 years or so down the road. They would tie LS and LC styling a bit closer together.

Alas, I'm not getting my hopes up. From my understanding, such an undertaking would be second only to a full change in the greenhouse as far as altering existing design. Much cheaper to tweak wheels, grille patterns and taillight inserts.

I still have to wonder what they were thinking when finishing up design work on this car 3-4 years ago and why they designed the LF-FC slightly differently from the VXFA50 LS 500. Then now you have this LS+ concept.

Back in February 2014, it was reported by that same BMW insider, that he saw Aichi HQ over a dozen brand new S-Class vehicles present for benchmarking reasons regarding the new LS. Plus, some other comments.

Likely when RHD W222 exports to Japan had just begun and when 200B was shifting into production development phase, which ended several months ago earlier this year.

BTW, there were interesting proposals for the X152 programme in regards to the door handles, back in 2010-11. A Corvette style door handle was thrown out, as it ruined the flush-mounted ideal by having a hole on the edge. Plus, the supplier was already a good choice.

Not sure why it wasn't done for this car.
