Lexus is filming a commercial with the RC F GT3 race car in downtown Detroit — from the Detroit Free Press:
An advertising film crew spent both Monday morning and part of the afternoon filming the two cars roaring through the streets of Detroit.
A spokesman for Lexus said the footage will be part of an advertising campaign tied to the brand’s involvement in IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship and its overall participation in motorsports. He was not sure why Detroit — home of the Detroit Three — was picked for the commercial but noted that a lot of movies have been filmed in the city in recent years.
This is exciting stuff — if the GT3 car is being featured in a commercial, it likely means that racing can’t be far behind.
(Why is the commercial being filmed in Detroit? My guess is the proximity to F Performance Racing headquarters, which is located in East Lansing, Michigan.)
