New Lexus High Performance F Model Coming to Detroit Auto Show

Lexus has released two teaser images for new model set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January — here they are (click for a larger version):

Lexus GS F Teaser 2

Lexus GS F Teaser

Here’s the full press release:

Lexus announced it will be adding a second vehicle to its growing stable of F brand high performance models. Earlier this year, the luxury manufacturer launched the RC F, a V8 powered performance coupe.

The newest Lexus F brand vehicle will make its global premiere at the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on Jan. 13. The vehicle will be revealed at a press conference in the Lexus display space at Cobo Center on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 8:40 a.m. EST.

While nothing is confirmed, the images are almost certainly the highly-rumored GS F — in the past few months, prototypes for the new super sedan have been spotted all over the world, and there are strong hints of the GS in both images.

Early impressions from the images: LOVE the headlight design and integrated carbon fiber front lip. What do you think?

They need to do the GS-F right. It could be a real competitor the M5. Price will have to be some what reasonable. I have owned an M5 and other German brands. I like the way Lexus is going. But performance as well as luxury is what will take this to the next level. Hoping to be something amazing.

Looks pissed off, man! As I predicted, a much larger and more aggressive Spindle Grill joins the GS in 2015. Buyers have been quick to purchase refreshed Lexus vehicles of late. The GX has seen sales more than double when it was refreshed. The V8 will do a great job as an overpowering V8 competitor to the CTS V-Sport, with a mere 400 HP. I'd expect pricing to land just above the RCF, between $65-70k. Motor Trend was eager to compare the 306 HP GS to the more powerful and more expensive 400HP V-Sport to give their new Car of the Year a notch on it's belt. Let's see if MT has the guts, the maracas to book a rematch against The Beast from The Far East? If the GSF is able to come in at 3700-3800 lbs with the bigger engine, it can hunt the M5 and E63. They may play in between the Caddy and the Germans, and price it @ $75-80k. Luxury buyers will pay more for a 5.0 V8 over a blown six from Cadillac, the King of Tier-2 luxury BD

You do realize that the GS F will have to face the full-blown CTS-V, not the V-Sport, right? Lexus will have to compete on price because in terms of specs it is outclassed by the Germans (and sadly will be by the CTS-V, too). 550HP is the bare minimum to play in this league. The twin-turbo, dual-clutch, all-wheel drive German competition is a whole model cycle ahead of Lexus here. But I do appreciate that Lexus finally seems to take its F brand seriously. I applaud how far it has come in the short time since its introduction. But it is hard to build up a brand value if your product is not able to outright beat the (German) competition.

Who said it's targeting the M5 and E63? Maybe it's gonna hit it where they ain't, and look to score more sales below them in the $70k range? Maybe Lexus is saving blown V8s for the LSF in 3 years? BD

I believe this front design looks better than those of the RC F, as far as we can see, of course.

Lexus can extract more power from this v8 with out turbo charging it. Im looking for 370kw N/Afor the GS dont care if the compation can pump out more with their aid of turbos

Lexus is making these so hard for me! I wanted an ISF, then the new GS came out and I wanted that, then the new IS/FSport and I wanted that, then I wanted the RCF, and now I want this GSF! I just love the new Lexus image!

As much as I'd love to see the GS-F dream come true, I can't help but ask myself 'Is the 5.0L V8 in the RC-F enough for the GS-F?" Lexus needs the GS-F to win over the M5, so anything less than 500hp won't be enough. Please, Lexus, do something.

A fully decked out 4th Gen GS F-Sport is 100lbs less than the RCF. Tack on the 5.0L & a TVD, they will be roughly the same, the GS F may be a bit more hefty, but the design direction may hint at some weight saving techniques. I'd expect at a higher cost for the GS F to pack a more aggressive tune, at least to have a near equivalent 0-100 time as the RC F when the RC has the front seats occupied and the GS F has the 4 main occupied.

I remember reading an article a while back about Lexus having more than just the 8AR mill from the NX in the works. Just a ballpark throw, but maybe they're saving the IS for the turbo conversion after the IS200t releases & the LC makes it debut. Maybe they will finally bring the 3JZ. (One can only hope)

I'm taking Lexus' word for it. I think it will have "just" around 500HP because if you think about it, the RC-F is basically a GS-F coupe more so than an ISF coupe.

Love the headlights. IMO best looking in the car industry. Can't wait for LS, but a GS-F is long-over due. Good thing now is that next generation will be up to its rivals, And next GS-F should come just in the same time as next M5. PS: Love the wheels too. RC F needs those.

about the power, i think it should be a bit more than 500hp, maybe around 520-540hp, because lexus gave the RC-F 470hp, so to make sure the GS-F as fast or even faster, and to justify its price over the RC-F it should have a lot more than the RC-F, but the thing is, if lexus decided to use the RC-F engine it wont be enough, to get more than 500hp from 5l engine is to lower the torque and thats not a smart move, so i hope they have a new engine, it should be around 5.4l or something smaller but with turbo.....lets wait and see

I don't think it will be bigger than 5.0L given the stricter Cafe's hence everybody is using turbos. Didn't Lexus said it will be close to 500hp? Had they said it will have over 500hp then 550hp would be a possibility.

yeah but 500hp cant justify the high price compared to the RC-F, they need more power, and especially more torque....lets see what they gonna do

A friend told me his young son (a professional & family man) bought the new Avalon because it looked so much better than the ES. It is pretty bad when the new Avalon is perceived better looking than the ES. The ES's interior is full of cheap looking hard plastic too. ES needs more than just a refresh . . . but then there are those high sales numbers lol

This could be an NX F. I base this off of the front profile of the GS's A section. Logically, This has NX styled headlights w/ L-finesse LEDs that are shortened to incorporate a larger spindle grille. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Look at the distance AFT of the front wheel well where the fender vents are styled. It's very short, even though it is presented at a 3/4's angle, it is considerably shorter than what you would see on the RC F at this same angle. [Recall the RC F uses the GS front, so the distance would be the same, wouldn't it?] And if you study the NX's profile, it is just as short in the A section, just as this picture shows. Does anyone see this as well?

I retract this thought, because it uses the same line that connects the wheel well on the GS, to the L-Finesse LED. This is probably a GS F. Though the proportions still look off. BUT WHATEVER WE GET ANOTHER F.

Hopefully it get wider rear wheel archs, like the IS-F had. But I doubt as even the RC-F doesn't.
