New Lexus Europe CT 200h Video

Should you have any last doubts at the Lexus CT 200h’s target market, this new video from Lexus Europe should put them to rest:

I’m guessing this video will be part of tomorrow’s launch of the CT production model at the Paris Motor Show, and is likely only the tip of the media iceberg. Much more to follow.

In my opinion this is only the entry version, later versions will come out more daring and sports I hope!!!! ps: would be interesting to see how it behaves with F-Sport accessories

I know that doesn't sound good, but I assume they were driving a pre-production version. Couldn't the actual production car be much better, especially after Lexus hears the poor comments maybe they can change it somehow.

I suspect the only way Lexus could change the CT to please the above-mentioned testers would be to put a BMW or Audi badge on it. Some people in the media (and amongst the public too) will never give Lexus the respect and credit they deserve. Why worry? If the people who buy it like it,that's all that matters.

To be honest...I love the way it looks, didn't quite like it in the beginning, but it has grown on me alot...looks great inside aswell, but why doesn't Lexus try to find a common "design language" for the interior...it looks great on this model, but maybe to similar to bmw? They should have used more of the design elements put into the concept version, or even the LF-A...speaking of the teaser though...I like it, but it reminds me of the Rav4 Vanguard teaser and Auris HSD, which I dont think is a good thing, not that they aren't good, but they're too close...they should seperate themselfs more from its mother! Also, going publish that they going to make lexus models more sporty, is a failure...why not just make them more sporty and let the auto-press acknowledge them for it afterwards??

Just like Eljay mentioned, the Lexus badge alone sets it apart from BMW, MB, or Audi, which have their performance identity rooted long before Lexus came into being. Acceptance will just have to take some time. I personally know of people who buy German cars simply because "It's a BMW". Same goes with the girls, "It's Louis-Vuitton". Had Lexus positioned itself with performance from the start back in the 80's, it would have been different now. But it started out as a luxury/comfort automaker, and drew in a different set of audience. Now it draws in a different set of eco-friendly audience with all those hybrids. The ISF is a great start, and the LFA will make a big stand. Just a matter of time.

Lexus is trying too hard to satisfy everyone. Infiniti needs to step up too, especially Acura. Acura started out pretty strong with their Integra, Vigor, Legend, and NSX. Those were great cars. Too bad they dropped those models for the RSX, TL, RL, and no NSX. Only the TL and TSX keep they alive. Acura needs to get back into the sport game. I love their SH-AWD. They already have performance/speed nailed down with their F1 and CBR; just need to market themselves better, and stop making Acura based on their Honda. I would love to see Acura make a strong comeback.

I really wanted to like this car, but almost 10 seconds to 60 mph; who is going to be able to live with this slug?? It might make a nice service loaner though (like the HS 250). What a waste of some nice styling.

@Enthusiast: That's 10 seconds to 60 mph in "normal" mode. "Sport" mode will be quicker.

Guys i agree with all of your comments (Eljay , JVX , ..) BUT .. CT200h was made for Europe, don't forget that. Starting price for UK will be 23,485£ = 27384€ = 37355 $ Whould you pay 37k $ for a car without fog light and 15" rims .. NO OF COURSE NOT! And when 3 of the BIGGEST auto-websites/magazines/ write such BAD reviews, sorry but even i am dissapointed!

Guys Guys Guys, the CT is supposed to slot in under the HS meaning it will be more affordable. I'm sure when US prices are announced the CT will start in the low $30k range. For example in the UK Prius' start at £22,265 which equates to roughly $31,000 US Dollars. In other countries which use the Euro like Germany the Prius starts at €25,750 which equals $35,115 US Dollars.

I think there is overall too much weight on what media say about the car. If someone (a person or an entire media industry) reviews a car (or anything after all) and expresses that he likes or dislikes the car, i think it is wrong to take his advices seriously. It is just that he doesn't like the car. There is nothing wrong with the car. I would recommend everyone to give it a ride once there is a chance. And for the reviewers - they should write about the car more from the objective point of view not from their own. :) And if someone asks - I love the car! :) I didn't at the beginning. I will be satisfied with 10s 0-60mph, I never rush so much that I would need it to speed up faster and I would appreciate a smooth and quiet ride. Tried Prius and liked it so expecting CT to be a bit more refined. Will go for the test ride. :)

0-65mph in 10 secs, nothing wrong with that if you are using it for daily urban driving.

0-60 in 9.8 seconds isn't bad for a car like this. The CT is faster than it's competitors (B-Class, 1er, A3) and will be even faster in sport mode. Plus when you think about how much more fuel efficient this thing is I don't think 134 hp and 0-60 in 9.8 seconds is that bad. Besides, that may be slow on the track but for normal driving that kind of power is fine for most people.

Also,Lexus is apparently considering a more powerful hybrid drive line.

@ Eljay Maybe I was a little harsh calling it a "slug". I was just hoping for so much more when I started seeing the pictures. It looks sporty and appeals to a younger crowd that are not going to be too happy with the power of this thing. As a-matter-of-fact I went down the Road & Track road test summary of the July issue and the only car slower was a Smart For Two Passion. The Prius wasn't listed, but I'm pretty sure it's also 9.8 sec. Also, you might want to check your facts. Both the 1er and the A3 are significantly quicker in US guise. And I doubt the CT 200h will be faster in sport mode since all that does is change the throttle response and shift points during normal driving. When you mash the throttle it's the same. Maybe it wouldn't bug me soo much if Lexus would stop throwing the word "sport" around so much.
