Fifth Gear Drives the Lexus LFA

Fifth Gear host Tiff Needell spent some time in the Lexus LFA driver seat for this week’s show (watch it quick as it’s likely to disappear shortly):

Now that has to be one of the most earnest and enjoyable LFA reviews we’ve seen yet — “This is mental fun,” he says while powersliding all over — there’s simply no mistaking Needell’s excitement.

As a bonus, Fifth Gear posted up a full LFA lap at Rockingham:

“Mental fun” is right.

Not sure why many of these reviews makes a big fuss about price. For those in the market for a supercar, price isn't really a factor. The LFA is priced accordingly.

@Rusty: He was in F1; even though his career was short-lived and had a podium finish only in the short-lived British F1, getting to where he had gotten pretty much gives him the rights to mess around.

I was just watching an old episode of Top Gear, and Jeremy Clarkson liked the setup of the Ford Focus ST suspensions, allowing it to take advantage of lift-off oversteer! Now we can't do that in a Lexus GX 460... Also, after the reports of unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles, people began to report them in pretty much every vehicle sold in America. I wonder if the people simply pressed the wrong pedal, or the transmission gear change wasn't very smooth - you know... like you floor it, then let go, and the gear changes up while the revs are still high up.

I think this is the first review I saw/read where they actually agreed with Lexus in the way they designed the transmission to shift. Also first time I saw it driven to the limit, all the videos with Pruet were just so smooth

Cool I liked that review. One that doesnt criticize like the Top Gear one :) Is this one of the few reviews with traction control turned off??? Are all the test on the LFA so far full production models or are they still just the prototype ones and the final ones will have a few bugs sorted before they are sold? Thanks

What was the time on that lap? About 1:39? If so that's pretty terrible. http://www.fastestlaps.com/track42.html

@Lexusluver: Oh come on man. Whether he was trying or not, he sure did make the track video fun to watch! aha and I'm not a Fifth Gear fan. I just respect good drivers. Also, I want Fifth Gear to continue to exist because it's something to fill in the absence during Top Gear's breaks. They should simply divide each year into four seasons, one for Top Gear, another for Fifth Gear, and another for Top Gear Australia, and hopefully, one for Top Gear America. Car shows are always better than no car show. ;-) Lucky UK residents get to watch Top Gear on TV once it airs without any commercials - I have to resort to FinalGear :-P or replays of old Top Gear episodes, which are infested with editing, trimming, and commercials, on BBC America.

Oh I'm not knocking the driver. In fact, Tiff has several of the record laps for this track though they were all in subcompact cars very unlike the LFA.

Tiff is an amazing driver, he's going sideways for video fun, period.

Agreed, it's an energetic run meant for tv -- all in good fun. :-)
