US automotive sales were flat this month, and Lexus was no different. The cause, of course, was last year’s Cash for Clunkers program — almost all Lexus models eligible for purchase under the program (IS, ES, RX) saw significant decreases.

With this taken into account, it’s a good sign that all the other models in the lineup showed positive gains — even the now-defunct SC had a sales increase.

Canada

Canadian Lexus sales were down 18.2% in August, for a total of 1,253 units sold. That said, Lexus 460 sales were up 75%, GX 460 sales up 30%, and the HS had its best month yet.

Lexus CT 200h USA Pricing Update

Lexus CT 200h Rear

Last week, I took a swing at guessing the Lexus CT 200h price in the USA based on some UK rumors, and today, I received a note from Lexus USA offering something a little more definitive:

“In the United States, Lexus intends for the all-new CT 200h to become the gateway model for the brand, targeting a price position below the IS.”

It’s still a distance away from an actual price range, but considering that the IS starts at $32,145 (IS 250 RWD Manual), we could be looking at a very competitive price for the new hatchback.

(Can’t wait to see the CT in Toronto on Friday!)

Lexus USA Revises LFA Purchase Options

Lexus LFA Cockpit

Lexus USA has revised their LFA purchasing options, and will now offer outright purchase of the $375,000 supercar rather than the mandatory two-year lease that was initially required.

This new purchase option does come with one condition, however — the Lexus dealership where the LFA was purchased will retain the first right of refusal to buy back the supercar if the owner wants to sell it within the first two years, and the price will be set at either fair market value or the original price, whichever is lower. The reasoning behind this restriction is simple: prevent speculators from purchasing the LFA only to turn around and sell it for a profit — a common occurrence when it comes to exotic supercars.

This information comes by way of an anonymous LFA agreement sent to Autoblog, here’s the full document for the curious:

The Lexus USA sales numbers are in for July 2010, here’s the model-by-model breakdown:

Total Sales 18,595 18,517 -3.3 126,025 108,577 16.1

While I’m sure Lexus doesn’t like seeing a dip in the year-over-year sales numbers, the decline can be attributed almost entirely to the HS 250h stop sale that was in place for most of the month due to a recall. Even so, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some interesting variation in this month’s sales, particularly with the IS & LX models.

The IS saw a 25.9% drop in sales, which is significant for such a high-volume model, though it may partially due to the expected changes in 2011 edition. The LX, on the other hand, is experiencing a resurgence, jumping up 28.1% over last July. In fact, all the Lexus SUVs performed well this month, which fits in with the industry-wide trend of increased SUV sales.

Canada

Canadian sales were released, and sales were down 20.6% with 1,201 vehicles sold. There were a couple bright spots though, with LS 460 sales up 23.5% (21 units sold) and the GX showing a 112.5% (34 units sold) increase over last year.

Total Sales 17,332 16,874 2.7 107,430 90,060 20.1

After a 31% increase in sales last month, numbers are down throughout the lineup — though last month’s high figures were a result of the “Unprecedented Access” sales event, and this month both the LS & HS were subject to stopped sales due to their respective recalls.

Hard to say how the recalls will affect sales, but the GX is seeing a strong sales increase despite the stability control recall earlier this year, so it could go either way. Still, there has to be some concern that the car with the only year-over-year increase is also the (soon-to-be) oldest model in the lineup.

Canada

Lexus Canada sold 1,429 Lexus vehicles in June, up 1.9% from the year previous. Lexus SUVs had their best-ever June with 819 units sold, with RX 450h sales up 116.1% and the GX 460 up 104.5%. The IS convertible also enjoyed a good month, up 59.3% compared to last year with 43 units sold.

For the most part, May sales were extremely positive — the GX was able to shake off any short-term effects of April’s recall and posted a sales gain of 111.5%, and the GS saw a significant boost after months of steady declines. All other models continued on the same upward slope that we saw the month before, with the exception of the LX and its 31.4% drop — most likely due to the introduction of the new GX.

Canada

Lexus sales in Canada dropped 10.6% compared to May of last year –still, GX 460 sales jumped 80%, and the RX 450h is drawing heavy interest with 61.1% increase.

Japan

There were 1,889 Lexus sales in Japan this month, up 4.1% over last year.
