Lexus LX 470 Recall Announced

2006 Lexus LX 470

A voluntary safety recall has been announced for certain 2003-2007 Lexus LX 470s due to an issue with the steering shaft:

Lexus has determined that the construction of the steering shaft on involved LX 470s is such that the snap ring on the shaft may disengage when the vehicle experiences an unusually severe impact to the front wheels, such as striking a deep pothole. If the snap ring becomes disengaged and the steering wheel is then repeatedly turned to the full locked position, the steering shaft may disengage over time.

Lexus is not aware of any accidents related to this condition.

The remedy for this condition involves replacing the snap ring with a newly designed one and the installation of an additional component to prevent separation of the steering shaft.

Affected owners will be contacted by mail in August to schedule the no-charge recall remedy at their local Lexus dealership — if you have any questions or concerns, it’s best to contact Lexus Customer Satisfaction 1-800-255-3987 or by visiting the Lexus recall page.

Flickr Find: Lexus LX 470 in the Alvord Desert

Photographer John Eklund took his LX 470 out into the Alvord Desert in Oregon and captured this great shot with rain on the horizon:

Alternate angle from John’s friend Stephen (check the lightning):

Of course, after 10 minutes, the rain came and turned the ground into a swamp, resulting in a very stuck LX.

Stretch Lexus LX 470 Limo

Stretch Lexus LX 470 Limo

I always get a kick out of limousine conversions, and this 2004 Lexus LX 470 is no exception, if only because of its entirely mammoth size. Currently for sale on Ebay, this mega-limo is a full 200″ long, with room for eighteen people.

I’d just like to know what they did to the inside roof, is that mirrors?

Flickr Find: A Real Bad Day

If you’re a LX 470 owner, you may want to steer clear of Jamaica, Queens:

Destroyed Lexus LX 470

I asked the photographer, Flickr user underwaterdemolitionman if he had found this in a lake, here was his reply:

I’m as sure as you are that it’s one hell of a tale but i got there after “the end.” The car, clearly stolen and dumped, had all its windows broken, all its tires slashed, the side mirrors were slapped off and it looks like it was set on fire.

It also looks like someone used the hood for target practice.

Do Not Try This

Warning: This is not for the faint of heart.

In a bid for first place in the “Stupidest thing you can do with a Lexus” contest, an absolutely insane Saudi Arabian teenager decided to drive 150/mph in an LS 430 LX 470 at night…all while sitting in the backseat. Don’t believe me? Turn down your speakers and watch:

I had to fight myself to watch the whole thing, and instead focused on the little details, the plastic wrap on the seats, the brightness of the interior light, just anything not concentrate on the actual events transpiring. How could this even be possible, wouldn’t the car eventually veer to one side?

Beyond comprehension.
