Lexus Japan Displays Custom Cars at Tokyo Auto Salon

Lexus @ Tokyo Auto Salon

The Tokyo Auto Salon is Japan’s SEMA show, and Lexus Japan had a collection of show cars on display — here’s a collection of photos from the 2UX3J (Lexus backwards) booth, along with paraphrased descriptions from the designers.

Lexus LS Black Leopard

Lexus LS Black Leopard

Designer Masanori Morikawa: The most supple and bewitching feline is the black leopard. The LS has a coat of jet black gloss with a “texture you will want to touch” and decorative metal studs in the image of black leopard fangs.

Lexus GS 450h Arctic Wolf

Lexus GS 450h Arctic Wolf

Designer Tadaomi Shibuya: The GS is the Arctic Wolf, the master of the hunt. We have proposed a new car design with graphic organic motif with the skeleton of the wolf.

Lexus IS F CCS-R Mountain Lion

Lexus IS F CCS-R Mountain Lion

Designer Toru Shibata: The IS F CCS R is like the Mountain Lion, running beautifully with excellent agility. A race car driving in pursuit, expressed with the trick art of stop motion.

Lexus LFA White Tiger

Lexus LFA White Tiger

Designer Shingo Abe: The tiger is larger than the largest lion, and white tiger is regarded as a rarest of all. The presence of the LFA is itself a white tiger.

By focusing on the abstract concept of “cars as animals”, the designers were free to build some amazingly creative show cars.

(Lexus Japan has been doing a great job of combining artistic vision with their vehicle lineup — I’ve been very impressed with the results.)

Comments

  1. I like the engine bay painting on the hood of the LFA.
  2. Truly Great stuff they are doing in Japan!!! Bonus info.. The Chief Engineer of the Lexus IS-F made sure to add subtle hints of the race car used here in the USA for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb... Down to the #8 and the Pikes Peak Decal on the drivers side back door... ~ Joe Z
  3. Wouldn't want to be clipped by that as a pedestrian! Can you imagine landing on that hood?...OUCH!...& if you continued to fly over the roof & land on that trunk?...DOUBLE OUCH!!! Good thing it's for display purposes only!
  4. I'd love to have 2UX3J on a personalized plate...it would look sooo pimp!I had considered before what it might look like if you switched the front & rear L logos upside down (7).Thought it might look ballin, but I wouldn't want to disgrace the Lexus name or be disrespectful.
  5. Am I the only one that thinks the new LS LED strip looks a little off near the inner curve? You can see the new GS LED flows good and it's almost curves around the corner of the headlight, meanwhile the LS looks a little separated, or am I just seeing things? ....
    • That part of the headlights never looked right to me either!Rest of the headlight & the whole rest of the car for that matter looks great to me,but, that part of the lights just spoils the whole front end for me,
  6. Tiger, Leopard, Mountain Lion...What has Lexus become? Apple??
