TMG Lexus LS 650 to Debut at Essen Motor Show This Month

Motor Authority is reporting that Toyota Motorsport in Germany will be debuting a TMG-branded Lexus LS 650 prototype at the Essen Motor Show this month.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0L V8 engine (likely from the IS F), the LS 650 will have more than 640 horsepower and top speed of 200mph — video of the super LS surfaced last year, along with detailed specifications.

TMG, who are also responsible for Toyota’s (very successful) TS030 Hybrid race car, plan to show this LS prototype purely as a design study, though officials did hint to Motor Authority that production is possible if there’s enough customer interest.

Not entirely sure, but it might be a mule. They are very secretive and tend to have lead time on briefing the public on their decisions. If it has been or will be approved, we'll possibly see a future mule using the new facelift within a year to 18 months.

LOVE the engine specs but not so sure bout the body kits. Hope this LS650 leads the way to the LS-F in the future?

It's too bad we(mainly me) didn't realize 2013 was facelift a prior to July. I'm certain this LS 650 is  very likely part of development work on the REAL next generation LS due in a few years(possibly  even in 14 months for the 25th Anniversary). This is likely a well disguised test mule and the facelift  proved to be a great distraction. Lexus said they would make a decision on a production TMG- tuned LS in late 2012, so now is the time to do it. The fact that both Mercedes-Benz and Lexus  have both delayed their flagships should be cause for concern for both BMW and Audi, as well as  my favorite, Jaguar. Both the XF50(?)LS and W222 S-Class will be forces to be reckoned with. It's  already been designed, so one can only imagine what it looks like. If production approved, I am  merely guessing this version will probably go on sale in 2015-16.

This pretty much confirms an all-new LS for 2015, and the question is (although not much of a question) do we want this Super LS to join the party at that time....... BD

I'll take it even with the previous fascia, the new one is already too "angry" like it's going to devour everything in it's path!

While the production discussion goes on, I want to say something about the name. Remember the NX? Or more specifically, the 200t? that has a 't' suffix. That indicates a turbo-charged engine. So shouldn't this twin-turbocharged beast be named in the same way? Ought it not be named the LS650t? (Or if it's a long wheelbase (doubtful), it should be called LS650tL)
