First 2013 Lexus ES Commercial: Defy Expectations

The video/commercial shown at last week’s New York debut of the 2013 Lexus ES has been posted online:

I’ve been looking forward to posting this, as it’s the best illustration of how much real-life presence the new ES has.

The more time I have to think about the new model, the more surprised I am — the new ES is such a departure from the vehicle it replaces. I’m impressed by Lexus’ willingness to take a risk with one of its volume sellers, and believe that risk will be rewarded with some big sales numbers.

First! Like the new ES!! FTW LEXUS!!!!! The black ES clearly hides the gap between the grill and hood! but overall even in white form, the new ES stands out! [+]

I love this new model and am 100% on-board with the design, with the exception of the odd hood crease.  Lexus is certainly unapologetic about it; the white color of the model in the ad does absolutely nothing to camouflage it.  Makes me a bit queasy because I prefer lighter-colored cars, and I think I'm going to want one of these.

Gorgeous, awesome! This new ES looks so sexy. If you don't see this car in person, you don't realize how superior it seems.

The rear taillamp treatment and decklid reminds me of the LS460.

That's a good thing imo. The rear of the LS is so nice, it commands presence. So does the rear of the ES, especially the dark Hybrid with trunkspoiler. We need this car in Europe.

I would like to know if the rear windows on the 2013 ES go down all the way into the door unlike those on the 2012 ES.  Just alittle detail I like to see on cars.

Honestly I'm a GS/IS fan and thought the ES was for the people that wanted a Lexus, but didn't care for style.  However, with this new model I think it's beautiful and would even consider purchasing it.  Granted this is assuming they destroy the IS's design and I doubt that ;o)  I love the direction Lexus is moving too.  Now just make me that IS coupe you all claimed to be making for the 2008 IS model that never materialized!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh and bring back the first gen IS cobalt blue as a standard color ;o)

I'm thinking next IS will look like a small GS. They will share the new patform Also expect ultimate driving machine aspirations, which worked out well for the GS

New IS will be based on a shrunken GS platform so we can just expect the same features on the ES, complete new interior with GS's tendency and the spindle grille.

I would like it if Lexus drew some inspiration from the first IS when making the new one. I want to see that bulge on the hood that the first IS had! I like the current IS and it's a very good car, but it sort of looks a bit - in lack of a better word - "feminin" compared to the first IS.

I have a 2010 IS250 and I love it.  I cannot wait for the 2014 to come out.  If it is built off of a shortened GS chassis that will be awesome.

The title of the video fits well... definitely did not expect the new ES to look this good!

At 0.14 mark, the white ES has a black roof which blends so beautifully with the front and the back wind shields. Would this be an one off sample or will they actually have a different colour for the roof? Or is the video playing tricks on my eyes!!!

lexus is just crushing the competition right now.  the best part is the fact that they are just getting started.  i am proud to be able to say i work for Lexus. i wouldnt want to be anywhere else.

I disagree in part with this. Audi is already the king of this segment. Audi or in the same conditions Subaru. They've the allroads like the Allroad or Outback and the transmission of the japanese model is also better than the german. Audi have better design inside (but the newer models are a bit poor) and, only Lexus can win this with the same range than Toyota Europe. A Lexus familiar (maybe GS), with AWD, much more options and accesories, and hybrid of course can damage so much the Audi, BMW or Mercedes cars.

Break line between hood and grill needs to be changed. It breaks the flow lines and I think interferes with potential beauty of the fron of the car. Looks like a cheap manufacturing method. I think it's slipshod for the ethos of simplicity in Japanese design.
