Lexus LS 430 Promotional Video

It’s been over 10 years since the third generation Lexus LS 430 debuted, and as this promotional launch video details, it was considerably ahead of its time:

It was love at first sight when I spotted the LS 430 at my local dealership for the first time, and today it sits as one of my favorite Lexus of all time (especially after its 2004 update). The uncompromising focus on pure luxury, the almost absolute silence while driving, the debut of radar-cruise-control & Mark Levinson audio system, the oversized yet elegant styling — it all forms a package that’s tough to beat, even today.

Love it. Still a beautiful car.

The 3rd generation LS certainly was a huge "facelift" of the 2nd generation LS. I liked it for a bit, but then, I began hating its bulbous look and S-class resemblance and its ugly dashboard. The 2004 facelift certainly made thing a lot better. Overall, I appreciate it because I know it's a great car. x]

I'm with you krew. I love what Lexus intended this car to be and the way they executed it, both style and ride. I still think this is a better highway cruiser than the LS 460.

I also want to say that the 4.3 V8 just felt better. It just seems more responsive and immediate. I know the numbers don't suggest it, but it just feels better than the 4.6 V8 to me.

I do have a shorter one for the LS 460, I'll post it up shortly. :-)

I always felt that the LS 430 was Lexus' attempt to build the perfect LS 400 -- there's a much clearer lineage than with the LS 460. Too much emphasis on bringing in a sportier component.

Impeccable execution aside, the poorest LS design of all Looks like swollen Toyota Avalon, from every angle Today I saw a MINT condition 1994 LS in white, with silver two-tone. It's styling may've been inspired by the S-Class, but it definitely shows, even almost 20 years later, what it takes to build a Lexus! BD 8-)

The original LS430 had one of the ugliest mugs on a car (apologies to Krew) & Jason Barlow of Top Gear thought the same thing in an old episode of the TV show. But the 2004 facelift rectified that, the wrinkles had magically disappeared! But the best aspect has to be the interior design & the sheer luxury of it, better than today's LS IMO. The Ecru leather with Golden Maple trim just blows me away... sometimes the best Lexus is a used Lexus!

I can only agree somewhat -- I was such a huge fan of the LS 430 right from the get-go, but looking back now I much prefer the 2004+ model. The 2001-2003 LS 430 just looks droopy and dated.
